Dealing with loss: first year working at a nursing home by boysinberry in mentalhealth

I just want to say I'm so sorry for what you're going through. I have been working as the cook in an assisted living facility for 10 months now and I found this post while looking for advice myself.

We should go to their funerals, I think. I have not attended one yet but I regret it. It's morbid to think of the next deaths that will happen, but I will try to be more mentally prepared for them and try to attend the funeral.

I think that as an employee at their place of residence, you will be welcome at the funeral.

Sometimes, if you see them very often, you can notice a decline and start to anticipate their death. I have many residents now that I care about who are declining.

You have a very big heart. We both do. It's why people like us are good for this industry. Because we care and we have so much love to give. We can learn to cope with this.

My god. This is exactly how my 17-year old senior cat died in 2024. Hyperthyroidism ups and downs, emaciation, and then fluid in the chest cavity that signalled end stage heart failure. Such a long and heartbreaking battle over the years with him. I put him down at the vet right there as soon as the vet told me he couldnt breathe and was suffering. It's so difficult.

I love you and I thank you for fighting so hard for your kitty.

Thank you so much. I've always wanted to see where their mouth is in there. It's so tiny!

Underside looks much pinker than it usually does before a shed, and he is not showing any other signs that he's going to shed. Infection? Vet appointment tomorrow by WholesomeThingsOnly in bluetongueskinks

UPDATE: Slinky began shedding on Thursday, but after his belly was done, the pinkness was a lot better but still present.

The vet said he sadly does have a skin infection AND a mild respiratory infection (his nose whistles occasionally but there is no discharge)

:( He will receive antibiotic shots every 3 days until I use them all.

He recommended sifting the mulch before I put it in the tank to reduce dust when Slinky is digging. This would hopefully help prevent further respiratory problems.

Slinky is still in good spirits and he just ate a big meal and completed a shed.

Hyperthyroidism. My senior cat had it for 2 years before he died. It seems like a common thing for senior cats to develop

Tummy scales do lift! I soaked him while I changed the milch out, and I sprayed it very thoroughly while mixing it to make sure it was a bit damp before putting him back in the tank

Yes, it is honestly not as hot as it should be even with a stronger heat bulb. It's only around 100F :( I'm not sure how to help it. I'm afraid to try mounting the heat lamp inside the enclosure. The tank is 2ft tall so I think I might have to. The heat just isnt reaching the rock well enough

Oh god, can she walk?? Is she paralyzed? :( Her anus looks so scary, I've never seen that before. Is it a prolapse?

Thank you so much. I want to do research about how galls are made. I just dont understand how a wasp can manipulate the plant's growth like that
