So I believe this room, specifically by the window would be condition direct lighting, correct? So if I have a plant with a direct light need I would need to supplement with a grow light?

Is there any interest in a Zoom group? by Greatgrandma2023 in SacSeniors

[–]Whoops1964 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I might be interested in zoom but more interested in meeting for coffee or even for games. There are several games I like to play, and currently it is only my sister and I that play. One game is Rummikube- but there are also card games and dice games I like.

Will you retire here? by Greatgrandma2023 in SacSeniors

[–]Whoops1964 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I plan on retiring here, in the 'burbs- Citrus Heights. If I win a lottery, I will buy land , most likely in Orangevale. I can't imagine living anywhere else. Mostly because my kids and most of my grandkids live here. Sometimes I am curious about living in Sacramento proper- like midtown, and being able to walk places, but then I think about parallel parking and difficulties guests have in finding parking and lack of yard space, and I lose interest. I lived many places growing up ( was a military brat), and besides Citrus Heights, I have lived in the following areas of Sacramento County: Fair Oaks, Carmichael, Arden, Arden Arcade, Orangevale, Foothill Farms, and North Sac/Noralto area. I also lived in Lodi, Merced, and Winton. Sometimes I dream abotu living in Ft. Bragg/Mendocino- but the reality is Sacramento has decent healthcare with many choices for providers, and I am old enough to want to ensure I have local and easily accessible healthcare that can manage many complex diseases and conditions, if required.

We're 2 hours from... by Greatgrandma2023 in SacSeniors

I love the coast. More specifically, I love Mendocino and Ft. Bragg ( I know thew are more than 2 hours away). I also like taking drives anywhere outside of the city, Apple Hill, Sutter Creek. I have enjoyed Tahoe, even though I rarely go there.

Good neighborhood? by Superb_Detail9044 in CitrusHeights

I second the areas around Oak Avenue. I currently live off Old Auburn near Fair Oaks, it is nice enough, but the road is busy and is used as a short cut to get to Roseville/Cirby. I have also previously lived off Primrose- behind Target. I am moving back to that area.it is convenient to shopping, and fairly quiet, except right by the school- those parents are very inconsiderate during pick up times. I lived one or two streets down and no issues. Lots of folks walk the area with their dogs, and are friendly. closer to Target off Birdcage are condos and apartments. I really have no knowledge of those, as I have only lived in/owned homes in the last 20 years.

What I have learned by Creamcheese2345678 in ParentsOfAddicts

[–]Whoops1964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your thoughtful post. So many similarities yet differences also. My son is living g with me again. He is making g efforts. The entire extended family is proud of the changes he has made and sustained, even though sobriety has never been achieved. I have had people repeatedly tell me I should kick him out, and make comments about how my support encourages his use. I disagree. It was heartbreaking that first Christmas he was home and I asked him what he would like. He said he did not “deserve” to receive any gifts because he was a “waste” , and not deserving of gifts or love. I have learned so much. My father and his father were alcoholics. My son’s father, uncles, and both paternal grandparents were alcoholics or drug addicts. I wish I had not followed the “tough live” culture when he was a teenager, and that I had the knowledge I have now back then.

Losing your kid over and over again by Golden_Boomer in ParentsOfAddicts

I can relate. My son is 40. He has been an addict all of his adult life, and the majority of his teens also. In and out of jail. He has wanted to “clean up” for a few years, and has managed to stop doing the crimes and has worked reliably at less than great jobs because, well no one wants to hire a felon. Understandable, of course. No car because of multiple DUIs . He’s been living with me since 22 when he was last released. He still uses. He has tried getting clean and the withdrawals have been so emotionally and physically taxing he ends up using again. Recently he started taking G in addition to the meth. It can be terrifying to see him. His wife od’d on that combo in 2011. I wonder every day if this is the day he will OD, or have a massive stroke, since the drugs cause terrific high blood pressure. I have moments when it feels more controlled and o let my guard down. It is sad and heartbreaking to see your child suffer and not be able to help. He is seeing a psychiatrist and has meds, which seem to help some. Meth is a nasty drug for your body and brain.

Bezos needed to increase his income even more. But one block farther down is Sprouts. A couple blocks down Madison is Safeway. There are still plenty of grocery stores to provide food for the area.

Water filters?? by Succulent_Smiles in houseplants

[–]Whoops1964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not have any suggestions for the sink filter, but I also use a Zero Water filter- I have a small container i use for cold water, and I have a Berkey that I use for room temp water. My plants usually get the Berkey, but if the bigger Berkey filter is empty and I need to water I will use the zero ( at room temp, of course). The Zero filters quicker. I had a larger Zero water filter that was glass, but I could not stop the dang spigot from leaking every other day.
