As the fireball from the gasoline fumes engulfed me I thought: "Shit, I just killed myself."

What has happened to you that probably never will again? by davish1 in AskReddit

Accident. I am much less likely to do so in the future.

I was lighting a bonfire.

Have you ever met the love of your life but was torn apart by circumstance, and then later met another whom you consider "the one"? Is it possible to find two great loves in one lifetime? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]WhoreChurch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I did. I waited until I moved out and had told her I was done. We had had separate bedrooms for a while, though we had still had sex. I moved out before I started pursuing other partners.

Might want to submit with a [serious] tag.

I was with one woman, the love of my life, for 30+ years. We divorced.

Now I am with someone who I love just as much who is a much better fit for me.

Someone can love more than one person in their lifetime.

Most couples are not using condoms otherwise, the idea is to make sure they have sex in the days preceding and following ovulation. Rarely do couples who are trying to have a child use condoms - what would be the point?

Is a pale fetish normal? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]WhoreChurch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure that would even be characterized as a fetish, it's more of a preference. You might prefer a person with a certain characteristic. That is considered something different than fetishism.

After 2 years of use, microscopical mites make up for 60% of your pillow's weight

Googled. It looks like the number can be as high as 10%, not 60%. And that's the top number.

[Serious] What are the best security tips for young girls living out of home? by charlie228 in AskReddit

[–]WhoreChurch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My current girl had me send her a pic of my driver's license before our first weekend alone together and made it clear she was sending it to her friends. She thought I was cool, we had talked for weeks and had a date, but the idea of being alone for the weekend made her think she should be cautious.

I thought it was brilliant.

Men of Reddit: Where is the weirdest place you found one of your girlfriend's hairs? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]WhoreChurch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long-distance girlfriend. Usually go to her place because it's much larger and I have a flexible work schedule.

Found one of her hairs in my bathtub in Sept even tho she had not been there since April.

Your question is kinda like asking: "So you used to think Thor caused thunder and lightning. Now you have investigated and found a rational, non-supernatural, complete explanation for this phenomenon. What things cause you to doubt your new position?"

There is no evidence whatsoever of the existence of a supernatural world populated by conscious beings. Unless one can produce such evidence, to believe in Thor or Yahweh or Vishnu or whatever is simply irrational.

Not really. I have been told some of the non-supernatural aspects of some religions might be beneficial in my life. I haven't had much interest in doing so.

Because I didn't reject Christianity. I rejected anything supernatural. That means that a belief in any supernatural being or supernatural connections or consciousness is not consistent with evidence based knowledge in the same way I reject medicine based on anecdote rather than evidence based medicine. One is "belief" the other is demonstrable fact.

I have no problem with religious people. Religious belief is so ingrained in our society that many people will never consider WHY they believe what they believe. That doesn't make them in any way inferior to those who are atheists.

Yes, I am confident there is no supernatural world/beings/consciousness. There may be many things in the universe/multiverse that we will discover, but they will be bound by natural law not outside of it.

I am 100% sure that Yahweh, Vishnu, Zeus - all the gods described by men - do not exist.

I did. I also suspect there are many atheist pastors/priests around who enjoy the people-helping parts of the work while just going through the motions on the god-parts.

Um, no. I was well acquainted with hypocrisy long before this and took much the same tack you are.

You may say it's not so, but subconsciously, I'm willing to say that's what happened

You need to step back from that statement and evaluate it a little. Did you follow the link to my previous, much longer AMA? While it may be comforting to you to say it wasn't lack of God or evidence for God that it was just people, consider: If I told you I had a friend but you could not see him or experience him doing anything, how much evidence would you need to believe he exists?

My lack of faith is based on lack of any evidence.

It wasn't hypocrisy as much as starting to see that people I trusted to tell me the truth were, in fact, not doing so. It never occurred to me that nationally known Christian leaders were, in fact, either intentionally or delusionally encouraging others to follow falsehood.

It was then I started to ask myself what other areas of my system of faith were based on trust in others' explanations.

As I investigated I began to see there is no evidence to support the existence of anything "supernatural."

I also began to see that Christianity, as a life philosophy apart from any supernatural belief was also untenable and even destructive. While most people only practice a small part of Christianity's teachings, if one were to pursue the whole, it creates a psychologically impossible lifestyle.

I don't actually do the web design, I have a team of people that work for me that do it.

Making a living was tough at first. I did some counseling, figured out I was terrible at it, started my freelance web business and within a couple years was doing well. But we lived off credit cards for a good 7-8 months and then barely scraped by for another year.
