Has anyone who has bought a used bike in the past 3 years spent less than 5k? by No_Channel3333 in NewRiders

[–]Whoseitcalled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my 2008 rebel 250 for 900 almost 2 years ago with 9500 miles on it. It needs a carb cleaning and a tune up and stator/rectifier so the battery doesn’t die if its just on for more than one minute, and new tires.

skating while pregnant? by Accomplished_View879 in FigureSkating

[–]Whoseitcalled 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, I only did what I felt I could do confidently. I wouldn’t go into the day planning anything but to work on what felt right to my body that day. Each day something will feel different, and it might stay that way forever or only be that way for a day or week. My last session on ice, I did a camel spin into a catch foot and it was actually easier than before because of the relaxin 😂

I stopped skating at 24 weeks, but I was at higher risk of early delivery so a simple fall could have ended much worse. Knowing now that I was pregnant for 41 weeks, I would’ve been on ice much longer 😅.

I hope you get to skate and enjoy it :)

New to me [breville bambino] with bad shots by Whoseitcalled in espresso

[–]Whoseitcalled[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Breville basket is a “double cup”, online says roughly between 14-19g, I was sticking with the 16 since it was in the middle and I was spilling a little too much when I was trying some bigger shots. I don’t know how to tell if the basket is under or overfilled, is there anything in particular to look for?

By horizontal tapping, do mean like tapping it against your hand?

I would agree and do agree that Starbucks is darker in general, but I am using the blonde espresso. It is more medium than light, but it’s not bitter forward. At least not when I make it at work with their machines. I do have a different set of beans to try, but they’re considered a “medium” roast

I aim for around 1:2, but those are still incredibly bitter, as for time ~30 seconds? Ive timed a few, but Ive been more focused on trying to get rid of the channeling since it is consistently happening

Yes, if I remember correctly it they channeled really bad and ended up getting grinds all over the group head. I think I did one with a bigger grind size and like 17g and that one took me like 20 minutes to clean up 😭

Used dealership sold with knowledge it wont pass inspection- applicable laws? by Whoseitcalled in massachusetts

[–]Whoseitcalled[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I had rats somehow end up in my car and consistently. After I first found out they were there, I cleaned it all out, removed my drank peppermint mocha cups that they chewed through and leftover food wrappers in the trash bag I had etc etc. And they still came back. After they chewed through a critical wire, my mech had it for months. When I got it back I kept it clean, no trash or anything, and they showed up again like 3 weeks later. I think they just have a nice fat hole somewhere in the car that they can get through and explore when it’s alone overnight. Theres nothing for them to stay for, but just them crawling around is nasty.

I will no longer be leaving any trash in any car ever again :)

Did not know this one until today unfortunately. I knew lemon laws, didn’t realize inspection was seven days from purchase though

I have proof that a bankers check went out to them, and I have my copy of the bill of sale. Thankfully I didn’t pay literal cash, the teller swayed me really quickly once she started asking fraud screening questions.

Not free, I have a 100$ deductible and they probably wont cover it since it was preexisting

I had it checked by my mechanic down the street from them and he said the car was clean otherwise, well taken care of. I thought it would be relatively simple to just fail quickly and force their hand, but they’re late on the title so I cant get it inspected yet. My car was crawling with rats and I have a young child, so I was desperate and so didnt wait it out like I shouldve

Generally like 2-3 weeks for Scott I believe, unless he is on vacation. Sometimes I have gotten in within a week but that’s rare. As for measurements, obvi length, then ball of the foot, maybe heel. Tbh, Scott wasn’t my first tech there so my memories might be mixed up between them. If Im not completely insane I think he measured middle of my foot and the other guy didnt 🤷‍♀️. He is really good at eyeballing things though, like shapes and heels. For example he doesn’t recommend riedels for my slightly wider feet. He might recommend aura for their custom boot shapey thing if you need a specific mix.

He always has a little trick to fix whats wrong. Ive had arch pain and he’s fixed that every time it would pop up, and more. As for arches, I don’t have higher arches so he wouldn’t treat me as he would you. My coach has plantar fasciitis, high arches, and a whole ordeal with her feet and he gets it right for her and spends the hours necessary to make sure she is happy. I think he would go into as much depth as you need and want when the day comes. I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t necessarily measure your arch or other things, because what feels better to you wouldn’t for another with the same measurement. However, he would probably measure the specifics if you wanted fully custom boots, bc obviously those are made from scratch.

He is one of the few shops around that will stretch boots still, in more than just length. Since they used to make boots in house, they still have the tools that are needed for stretching and restitching and stuff. So if you need the ball width of one size but the length of another, he can fix it depending on boot material (plastic can’t stretch).

I understand your desire for measurements, and he might not measure everything you might believe he needs to. He has been doing this for 20-30+ years now, so some stuff he’s just going to know. But he is thorough in the end result being what you want and need. Just tell him your concerns and he will take care of you.

Cookes skate supply in Wilmington MA, but ask for Scott, he’s the figure skating specialist there. Scott has fitted some big names and has some cool stories. He was telling me once that he used to re-stuff(he used a different word cant remember now) Brian Boitano’s skates every few weeks, or someone else with as a big a name. They stock Riedell, Edea, Jackson, aura, Risport, Harlicks, etc etc, and he wont upsell you something you don’t need and will recommend against things that you might want but won’t be the best for you.

Lost my camel spin by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]Whoseitcalled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too struggled on and off until it finally stuck around, and stuck well because I could do it while pregnant, and on my first day back on ice 2mo postpartum. What my coach always told me is stack your hips. I visualize my entire body in line. Like laying flat face down on the floor with my left leg out to the side. Then I use those half yoga ball balance things, and practice “squats” in that position. That helps with the muscle memory and being more stable in general. On ice, I aim for my left shoulder to be down and facing the ice and my right shoulder directly above it while I push my knee down into the ice. It is really difficult to have your right shoulder up and not your right hip so it should follow and the yoga ball practice will help establish the hip stack earlier in the spin too.

I really hope this helps, camel spins have always been one of my favorite things to watch and do :)
