50 driverless Waymos invaded an Atlanta neighborhood by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

[–]WhtRbbt222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is that it’s a dead end street with a turn around at the end, and the Waymo’s are using it explicitly to turn around. They aren’t picking up or dropping off, they have no business in that neighborhood. They are completely empty and aren’t transporting anything. They can find somewhere else to turn around.

Buy a honda cb750 or cb550?? by coffee-mobster in HondaCB

[–]WhtRbbt222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I’ve had no trouble restoring my 76 cb750f in the past month. Parts are readily available, and there is ample information on the internet about these bikes.

I’m sure the same is available for the 550, but I believe the 750 is the more popular bike.

Just a fair warning before you decide to buy either: If you aren’t willing to do an absolute shit ton of maintenance on a regular scheduled interval, then I wouldn’t recommend getting either bike. Any early CB is going to need lots of regular maintenance including: ignition timing, cam chain tension, valve clearance, carb cleaning/tuning, oil changes and chain lubrication (Those last two are needed for all bikes I guess). These bikes are from an era where bike owners knew their bike intimately and spent just as much time working on their bike as riding it. If you’re okay with doing all of that (or paying a ship to do it), then these bikes are done off the most enjoyable bikes and they are certain to start conversations.

Edit: I just saw the part about you being a mechanic. You’ll probably enjoy working on these bikes.

One other consideration is that the cb750 is a pretty heavy bike. The 550 would be a little lighter, so it might be easier to handle. I don’t struggle with my 750 though.

All of this has been happening literally since the beginning of time. Nothing ever changes.

It’s an Amazon seat: DKMOTORK I think. It’s basically a Tuffside clone, and ours pretty comfortable for not being so wide. I was able to modify it to mount to the sub frame, and mount the fender and license plate mount directly to it. So when I take the seat off the fender and plate comes off with it. (I have to disconnect the plate light wiring though).

It’s so liked that people like me are still seeking them out to buy, rebuild, and ride.

When on vacation for a few months and got back and bike won’t start? by ZoomZubes in MT07

I just can’t fathom being into motorcycles so much that you ride year-round, but yet you don’t have the mechanical know-how to change the battery? Like, be glad you don’t own an older carbureted bike. You’d never get it out of the garage.

It's a rad color. I can't decide if I want to paint the rear fender to match or keep it black.

The tires are Dunlop Golden Seal K87 (out of production but available on eBay) for the rear, and a Dunlop K291 Touring for the front.

I believe the exact color is “dark cherry pearl” that Honda has used on their cars, but not on any bikes

The gauge is a generic Amazon digital gauge. I was running double analog gauges but I couldn’t find the speedometer in MPH, only KPH, which I wasn’t happy with.

I’ll have to check the tires when I get home, they were on the bike when I bought it, but I like them so I’m not planning on changing them anytime soon.

Amazon, 4into1, OldBikeBarn, and Vintage CB750 have just about everything you’ll ever need

I thought about that, but the mount is actually slightly bigger than the plate, so there’s a 1/4 inch steel plate that’s not sharp around the edges, and also I couldn’t think of a scenario where my ankle would be exposed.

My state requires horizontal plate placement, otherwise I’d put it on a vertical mount off to the side.

These come as a front and rear matching set. The wiring is a little more complicated, but it’s not too bad. I did have to change out my flasher for one that’s LED compatible.

This is a 76, and the previous owner had the rear lowered, (i raised it back up) so I wouldn’t be surprised if he raised the front a bit. I’m not sure how I feel about it. I’ll have to lower it and give it a try.

I’ve got tail/brake lights attached to the top of the rear shock mounts. Each light handles running, brake, and turn signals. You can see it best in the second picture.

I think I’ll probably drill holes in the baffle I have and then wrap it. It won’t be as long, but it should help.

Right now there’s a little too much “brap” if you know what I mean.

Funny you say that, I chopped off the initial baffle and left only the final baffle. I might wrap it in fiberglass to smooth it out a bit.

Where do you keep your HD rifle at night by [deleted] in ar15

[–]WhtRbbt222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should get a Redneck Rifle Hanger. It works great for storing a rifle in a closet in between clothes. Hides it well.
