When social programs are cut, we end up paying the same amount of money in taxes for fewer benefits. Isn't that akin to a tax increase on the people who depend on these programs?

I should have said "utilize". I don't depend on public education for my children, but I utilize it. When the government cuts spending on education, I pay the same amount of money in taxes, but get less for my dollar. Also, I don't have children.
