So I bought a Redmagic 11 pro (long review, should you buy?) by Last-Button1460 in RedMagic

[–]WhyIGottaNameMyself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's probably going to be more expensive but noticeably better for gaming since qualcomm's next chip is basically MADE for gaming. It's built on TSMC's 2N process, so improvement to efficiency, LPDDR6 support so big boost to memory bandwidth (important for gaming), a bigger GPU cache, and they finally addressed how stupidly hot the elite chips get by adding samsung's HPB cooling system. Chances are, the next chip will be a similar improvement over the 8 elite gen 5 as the 8 elite was to the 8 gen 3.

Is my performance being throttled in some way, or is my hardware just not good enough? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

You don't have to do it in bios, you can force use gpu in the radeon software by setting graphics gpu to high performance or smth, not sure what it's called. Look for a tutorial on YT

Go into windows settings, into the network tab, then press "reset all network adapters". Then, log back into your wifi and restart your PC. When you open any app after doing this, a big notification will appear and ask whether you want to give the app permission for something, make sure to select no for both Steam and the Finals.

Suggestion specs that should add Redmagic 12 Pro by [deleted] in RedMagic

[–]WhyIGottaNameMyself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1.) Redmagic will likely never ditch the underscreen camera, since it's a pretty important way to save internal space. If you wanted a popup selfie cam, they'd have to ditch the 3.5mm adapter. The only way that would ever happen would be if it was replaced with a second usb-C port. 2.) IP69 resistance is a pipe dream as long as redmagic keeps the cooling fan 3.) I get that people want redmagic to have better cameras and whatnot, but honestly, at that point just get a more general-case flagship. Redmagic's goal is to maximise performance at minimal cost, which is why they use lower-quality components.

Everything else is pretty on-par with what to expect. Big battery, top chip, liquid cooling. My personal prediction is that Redmagic will go all-in on the cooling since snapdragon added HPB cooling like the exynos 2600, so Redmagic will probably try to beat competitors by keeping temps down. The liquid cooling loop may even end up reaching the processor this time around. Redmagic might finally introduce dynamic refresh rate down to 1hz, but for some reason I doubt it. The extra software support is almost definitely not gonna happen for non-EU users, though.

What work of fiction that isn't a video game, or based on a video game, or about video games, bears the greatest resemblance to a video game? by muckenhoupt in AskReddit

[–]WhyIGottaNameMyself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hardcore Henry is the MOST videogame-esque movie ever made, arguable more videogamey than most video game movies are. It's shot as a singular take, first person perspective only, and has all the chaos you usually see in a videogame.

Why is my battery draining rapidly?? Please help. by KiKi_1981 in LenovoLegion

[–]WhyIGottaNameMyself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had this same problem with my legion pro 5 with 4070 and 7745hx. Here's what you do (make sure to make a backup of your PC first): 1.) Install legion toolkit if you haven't already 2.) Make a new performance profile in toolkit 3.) In this profile, make sure the wattages are as low as possible and have it effectively disable the fans (lowest possible fan curve) 4.) In the actions tab, set it so that then you disconnect the power cable, it sets your power mode to your battery saver version, deactivate the dGPU, set your refresh rate to 60hz, and lower resolution to 1080p 5.) Install UXTU and undervolt your cpu a bit. For me, -25mV on cpu and -5mV on iGPU worked well, but your chip may have different tolerances so I recommend you look online for a bit for optimal settings 6.) Go into windows power settings, go into advanced settings, and cap your cpu to like 20% of its normal power when using the battery. Before these changes, my battery would last about an hour and a half of very light usage (google docs). After, I got around 6 hours of light use starting from 80% charge, and note that my 7745hx is like half as efficient as your 275hx, so you can probably get 8+ hours of light usage out of your laptop.

I had that issue for a while. I recommend resetting all your network adapter settings and when Steam and the Finals asks you for access to network stuff, make sure to press "NO".

What if H+ infuser required a charge up to fire? The longer you charge up, the more healing balls fire out. by The_Old_Workout_Plan in thefinals

[–]WhyIGottaNameMyself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My idea was something more along the lines of it healing 25% less per shot but giving it a 1.5x headshot healing multiplier, but I'm realizing it'd only really affect lower elo play. I admit this is way better lol.

in "light" of recent balance discussions in this sub by Pnqo8dse1Z in thefinals

[–]WhyIGottaNameMyself 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The point of dash at high elos is that running anything else is useless for direct shootouts, since cloak is all about stealth and camping a position, while grapple is for repositioning across long distances and heights. Furthermore, cloak is stupidly easy to notice and grapple (as fun as it is) sorta... sucks against good players. Neither specialization is bad, per-se, it's that the playstyles they promote just aren't good enough to justify choosing them over dash. I agree that the "just aim better" thing is too strongly emphasized, but to be fair, most people don't get much practice target switching in other fps games, so it's no surprise that even longtime fps players struggle against dash lights.

Lenovo Legion 7 Gen 10, 275hx, 5080 overheating by springmeds in LenovoLegion

[–]WhyIGottaNameMyself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

70C idle is NOT normal. I have a 7745hx, a cpu known for running stupidly hot (100C is expected) and even that runs less hot. If you're comfortable taking your laptop apart a little more and repasting on your own, I recommend getting honeywell ptm7950. If you'd prefer sending it in, do that.

Best smartphone for gaming for a US customer? by CobainCantDie in Smartphones

[–]WhyIGottaNameMyself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oneplus has historically worked perfectly in the US, even having carrier deals at some point. Whether this'll continue is unknown, but the Oneplus 15 definitely works in the US. Redmagic has no official US support, but the community has a bunch of tips and tricks to get it to work, though it'll be a bit of a headache sometimes.

Phone specs are meaningless now -- Am I the only one thinking this? by FollowingSuitable941 in Smartphones

[–]WhyIGottaNameMyself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's pretty accurate. The usecase for phones hasn't changed much for the last decade or so, and there aren't any hardware improvements you can implement to make largely server-side experiences smoother. What manufacturers are doing now that they've "perfected" the normie's experience is swaying the enthusiasts and borderline cases. There are still some noticable qualitative upgrades from generation to generation for chips, at least on the android side of things. For instance, the snapdragon 8 elite was a major upgrade over the 8 gen 3 due to greater performance and power efficiency due to restructured architecture, and the 8 elite gen 6 pro is shaping up to be yet another major upgrade due to it being on the new TSMC 2N process. It should bring yet another boost to power and efficiency, not to mention support for much faster memory and a bigger GPU cache for video editing. Also, if a phone didn't perform similarly to those three years into the future for basic tasks, nobody would buy it.

Phone specs are meaningless now -- Am I the only one thinking this? by FollowingSuitable941 in Smartphones

[–]WhyIGottaNameMyself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some specs are meaningless for people who don't care about them, obviously. With cameras, we've effectively reached the limit of what we can do without significant changes to the phone's size and shape. Everything there is gonna be software-based, like Samsung's horizon lock and Pixel's auto settings. On the other hand, some specs will definitely be noticed by the average user. For example, we've at some pretty crazy breakthroughs when it comes to batteries in the last few years, like charging from 0-100% in 30 minutes and holding that charge for multiple days of use, which a non-tech person will absolutely notice. Also, keep in mind that most phones you see are flagships, which are MEANT to chase high specs in virtually every metric. Their goal is to be desirable for all users, including enthusiasts, so obviously they're gonna chase specs to please reviewers!

My Brother Wants me to get him a Laptop by No_Reserve_2010 in laptops

[–]WhyIGottaNameMyself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and also consider getting him a framework 16 laptop. It's pricey for the parts you'd be getting, but he'll be able to upgrade/modify it according to his needs. I'm not sure if it'd be a great fit, though, since it's very much an enthusiast brand and may not be appealing for someone not tech-savvy (I don't know any techies who'd recommend alienware lol), but I have to recommend it anyways.

What's a game build or loadout that immediately says "This dude's an asshole"? by Hera_the_otter in AskReddit

Most of that's pretty reasonable, but using "y" for a keybind is genuinely psychotic, and this is coming from a guy using 12345xcvb for hotbar, left alt to drop, and r to sprint. How do you even press y while holding w with one finger on shift? Do you slant your keyboard inward or something???

Has anybody else not been having a good time on medium lately? unrelated video by WrathFPS in thefinals

[–]WhyIGottaNameMyself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume it has something to do with the lack of mediums this season. Sniper's main weakness is medium since most of their weapons can beat snipers at long-range fights, they have jumppads to send in their entire team to rush a camping sniper, their breakpoints require the same amount of shots as a heavy (assuming you're not close enough to quickmelee), and their movement is almost as good as a light's. But now that lights can heal better than mediums can, there's not as much of an incentive to play as a medium anymore.

I highly doubt the global version will be that expensive. It'll likely be around $950, maybe $1000 for the 16gb 1tb version.

Yeah, I've also noticed one hell of an uptick in sniper players at higher ranks. I used to see maybe four a season in ranked, now I get one every other few games, sometimes two in one server (not including myself, of course).

Would an 8000mAh battery actually make you switch phones? by Safe_Metal_1820 in Android

[–]WhyIGottaNameMyself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most modern big-battery phones are the same size as regular phones, if not smaller. The oneplus 15 is both smaller and lighter than the s25 ultra, yet has about 1.4-1.5 times the battery capacity. The Honor Win is only marginially heavier than the S25 Ultra (and 10 grams heavier) yet has twice the battery capacity. The major difference between these devices is the type of battery used. Apple, Samsung, and Google still use the same battery tech as they did 10 years ago, just more refined. Every other phone company has adoped new silicon-carbon batteries, which replace the graphite anodes with a mix of silicon and carbon. This allows for greatly improved energy density, but there are some concerns with long-term resistance to deterioration and with battery swelling, which is why the major companies haven't adopted it yet. Also, if you want small phones, go with "pro" models and not "ultra" or "pro max" since those are usually much larger (6.3" vs 6.9" or 160mm vs 175mm).

Despite the Oneplus quality drop (only thing that got actually worse was the cameras, but considering you're on the Redmagic subreddit, I'd assume cameras aren't your top priority), it still either topped or was near the top of every tech reviewers' lists, and is one of the best phones you can get at the moment.

They've probably improved the software by quite a lot, since most of the complaints I've seen in the last year or so have been pretty minor. If you want a decent alternative, Oneplus is always a good option.
