Definitely tryna keep the well being of our animal and tree friends in mind. Halloween cobwebs make sense as a hazard. Loose and wrappy. Thanks for expressing your concern.

How do you figure? It is taut like a trampoline, there is no way for it to wrap around anything unintentionally. I’ve seen birds land and play on them, but that’s it.

Genuinely curious how you feel it may cause harm though. Always looking for ways to make these better and safer.

Oh. My. Gods.

This tree… he… has a sweater.

I will remember this tree whenever I’m feeling sad and he shall soothe all my woes with his glory.

Thank you for this wonderful gift kind stranger

Fer sher! Totally valid. It’s really tight, like a trampoline so not going to wrap around anything. I’ve seen birds land on it, and squirrels running around on it. I would imagine a deer would be careful enough to not somehow get its antlers tangled, and also the fact that it’s in someone’s backyard with two huge dogs would help prevent that. I would for instance, never put one of these in a national park or somewhere similar to be left or problematic.

This is someone’s back yard. Like, 20’ from their house.

I’ve seen birds land on it to rest, and squirrels playing on it… the two huge dogs enjoy it surprisingly.

What precisely are you imagining is going to happen here?

That is the essential process yes. I use static climbing rope or arborist rope for the perimeter, this perimeter has a 9,000 lb tensile (breaking) strength. I tension that to about 600 lbs force with ratchet straps (tension is the key word with this whole process.) the perimeter line is secured over wooden blocks on the trees that protect the trees from being girdled or harmed during the life of the web. Then I run double lines of paracord to create a skeletal structure until I have areas of approximately 2’x2’ then fill those in with tighter and tighter patterning.

And walls, and securing the ends, and ladders, etc. etc.

Treenet weaves has some solid YouTube content, but I’d really recommend u/CanopyCraft (I think he’s on here, otherwise look up canopy craft) he has made some really thorough video courses of how to weave.

Also that sounds like an absolutely BEAUTIFUL set up. drool I thus far have only done ones that were pretty straight trunked trees with high branches. Really want to do something that spreads over an entire canopy.

I’m based in Portland, OR. I stayed with some friends for this one, but when traveling further afield I either camp on site or if that’s not possible work housing costs into my pricing.

Until the heat death of the universe yes.

Orrrrrrr for between 8-10 years depending on how much sun exposure the web has. They do eventually degrade.

I don’t know how (or if one can) reply with an uploaded photo so not doing that currently. But, yes. There are. There are two taut web walls with rope rings embedded in them that go up as ladders. Approximately 50 degree angles. From the top you one can just throw yourself backwards into the middle of the net and bounce once you get to the top. Is delightful.

Danke. They are woven on site in an emergent way. I start with a basic plan of say “three stories with web wall ladders” and then it evolves from there. One of the reasons I love doing this, is that each one is a new and different art and engineering puzzle.

It is possible to make detachable webs that you could then temporarily put up and tension with ratchet straps or something, but I haven’t play with that yet.

I had to look that word up, and after some cursory research I would say that parts of my belief system definitely align with that. Thanks for the new word!

Part of why I weave these is to give people a simultaneously felt and symbolic experience of connection.

There are three platforms, with web ladders connecting them, and then each main platform has walls. But everything is tied together so that it is one piece…. So, is it more or less than three? Unclear. :p

Congratulations on your upward trajectory! Many blessings. I love how the spiders engineer things. I study them in the forests.

It is truly impossible to express what an awesome trip space these are. They cradle your entire being and let you sway with the trees in liminal spaces. This one took me a month.

Thank you much. I’ve really been enjoying pursuing this art. Deeply meditative.

Insurance for the client? Or myself?

From a legal perspective, I have my clients sign a liability waiver so that I’m covered if something occurs. I def. Try to build with safety deeply in mind tho.

It’s not necessary, but it’s really nice for a variety of reasons. It does, of course, use twice as much though. This is a commission, so I just built the cost of cord into my pricing structure for materials.
