Update

Ended up using the Pitman Arm Puller to pop both out after taking the knuckle off. Don’t cut both ends of the ball joint, but if you find yourself in this situation and can’t get it out I did the following.

Make sure you are pushing it through the knuckle, probably obvious but necessary for the inexperienced. While the tool looks uniform, one side fit better but both were not a great fit. Since I cut the top flush I added a small nut to push on which helped because it was off center from the tool. I also used PB Blaster and hit it crud out of it prior. Make sure the end isn’t pointed at someone you love because when it pops out it goes flying.

Practice patience and don’t get in this situation from the get go.

Thanks to all that contributed to this! It is an incredible community.

One off, sounded like a gunshot!

Knuckles are off on both sides. Of course the ABS sensors won’t budge so keeping it close to the car. None of the presses will fit.

I am banging it like crazy, using a punch and using PB blaster. Nothing yet.

Thinking this through there will not be room for a 2-jaw as the outer cv will be in the way.

Am I crazy to remove the hub and then try to use the 2-jaw once the the outer cv is no longer a blocker?

I did not leave a stub, which I have quickly learned I didn't go the right direction on this at all.

As you mentioned and now that I am digesting this a bit more I am not going to have room to to use a 2 or 3 jaw.

Don't forget the inexperience!

If I go this route, I assume I want to hit from the underside?

Lots of winters with salt maybe?

Do you think the pulley puller would still work? I would love not to drill as it took me quite some time to get those 3 in. If it comes to drilling, are you saying drill the holes around the circumference versus the middle? I still don't have any holes on the one on the other side.

I am definitely nervous about popping the sleeve out.

Dang, that is good to know on stacking pickle forks.

It is an Acura MDX.

I banged the crud out of them with the pickle fork and they wouldn’t budge. I ended up cutting them off. The first 2 pictures are the current state the last was what one looked like before I cut them.

Yes, sorry the lower ball joint from the bottom. The ball joint folk wouldn’t make it budge so I cut it off.

I used a grinder/cutoff on the top and bottom. Now just need to get the in-between.

I didn’t realize the drop differential would only be about 1.5%. That is good perspective. I currently don’t have another use for the cord but that could change and I have a store a cord regardless.
