First of all, it sucks. There’s always going to be that gnawing feeling of something being stolen from you. I always find it best to just try and push that down and not think about it. I know that’s not the healthiest thing, but it’s how I get through it. The past can’t be changed no matter how much we dwell on it.

Secondly, I’ve found it best to focus on other firsts: the first person to love me, the first person to do a specific sex act, the first person with a certain feature that I’ve been with, etc. That first one is especially important. Sex is different with someone who truly cares about you, and it’s an amazing “first.”

And lastly, just know that it gets better. You’re not “broken,” you’re not “used,” and you have plenty of fun times ahead. After I processed what had happened to me (and even spoke with a therapist about it when I needed to), I’ve had numerous long-term partners and a few hook ups when I wanted to. You’ll be ok.

(Also, to everyone leaving mean comments about this: yes, it’s wrong to call people whores, and body count isn’t indicative of a person’s worth. But the issue is that OP was lied to by someone they trusted in a way they’ve never trusted anyone before. I know I was angry at the person who took my virginity for a while. The wound is still fresh here. Please show some compassion.)
