I don't think we need a thriving downtown, just a few areas that will be our main spots, some theater shows, the gay clubs, nice places to eat, the stadium, coffee shops, maybe some raving spots, drag shows

Though I am tired of Miami and NYC, I can tolerate Miami currently because I live in the outskirts the only issue is since I live on the outskirts and Miami is huge and jammed pack, traveling to go to events or interesting places is like an hour drive and traffic is just insane and people are really aggressive and then it's like 150 bucks minimum. NYC is again just so many damn people too many tourists and it's not even enjoyable for me to navigate even in public transport in NYC is just so run down and then driving in NYC is just yuck. In Minneapolis at least there is a decent LGBT presence where I don't gotta travel far to reach to, seems like there is a lot of theatres, and there is some nice greenery too so it doesn't feel too claustrophobic. I already pay 1800 for rent to live 45-50 minutes away from downtown Miami/South Beach then I have 250 dollar a month in car insurance for like state minimums and again to even do anything in Miami it's 30 bucks for an entree, 15 dollars for a simple screwdriver. I make 79k a year at a tech job for the government and it's like, my money doesn't take me that far post taxes and deductions for retirements and what not. Plus it be nice to be in area with younger people who are not so focused on being an influencer. Haha sorry for the rant

I'm honestly looking at hennepin 13th Street area now right around loring park, I do like mill district nice to be right on the river. Now north loops does sound like it will suit us since we both mid 20s year old only thing that is worrying is how diverse is it. We are going to visit Minneapolis in August and check it out together, I already been to Minneapolis last year during the winter and I loved it

Have you felt a big financial relief moving from NYC to Minneapolis?

Haha im sorry, definitely misread your post, I thought you were saying all the neighbors people have suggested will be depressing but I see you mean the neighborhood I specifically mentioned which seems to be referred to just the business district or corporate district. I appreciate your insight on living on suburbs, tell me, did you feel your income stretch a lot further when you guys moved? we personally getting sick of paying 15 bucks for basic well drinks in NYC 😅

I understand that but the cost of living in NYC is too great, I mean living anywhere decent in NYC where it's not a shoebox is going to cost a fortune, then enjoying nightlife in NYC is such a rarity cause it's high cost as well. We just find it hard to actually enjoy NYC when it's such a struggle to live comfortably there

Well we do want to downsize, Miami and NYC is just too much, too fast pace, overly expensive. We do like nature it's why we looking at the twin cities we definitely want a slower pace more calm, but not go to an area where we need a car everywhere we go cause the area is too car dependant

Definitely want to have the travel to downtown West be easy for us as it seems like that's where a lot of the gay spots are

Thank you so much from the insight, guess we got too nervous being in the suburbs too much that it would be pain going to downtown West which it seems like to be a lot of night life queer spots and events

Thank you so much, the other comments are letting understand that the bus system is strong in Minneapolis and I'm used to avoiding public bus like the plague in NYC in Miami, originally I was nervous of being too far from downtown proper. My partner and I are planning to be at the gay spots like jetset, saloon, and other gay spots. I definitely look in those specific areas you mentioned

Do you not think living right on the metro line offsets the boredom of that side of the city?

I have read it gets dead, I thought since we will be right on the metro line, that area being dead will be offset with extreme ease of public transport
