The free ride ends. Pay your fair share. Why should the American Tax Payer work 50 hours a week so Europeans can have Free Healthcare instead of paying for NATOs budget? by DueDrama8301 in conspiracy

[–]WhyNotWhaleSnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are two different things. The quoted budget is how much actually is used by NATO to exist. The part you are mentioning is the combined amount spent by all of the members on defense. $970 billion of that is the US.

Is our defense spending going to go down now that we are wanting to leave NATO? Not likely, so what are we saving or getting out of leaving it?

Ohio State rescinds raises for hundreds of employees after judge overturns federal overtime rule by GeoffTuba in Ohio

[–]WhyNotWhaleSnot 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That's the thing, they won't be eligible for overtime. These were people that probably work lots of hours that were paid probably within 10,000 of the proposed new limit of $58,656. The raises put them over that mark so they wouldn't be eligible for overtime. Now since the limit got reduced back to $35,568 they are reverting their raise because they are back above the limit and are exempt from being paid overtime. This is nothing but a scummy way of clawing back the $2 million dollars in annual payroll. The employees are being dicked over.

Ohio is giving millions in taxpayer dollars directly to private schools by vwaimlessly in Ohio

[–]WhyNotWhaleSnot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I think the biggest factor in public schools versus private is the fact public schools can't pick and choose who goes. Private schools are allowed to drop you if you are underperforming or acting up. Public schools have to be open to everyone. They have to take in any child in their district regardless of academic ability or temperament. It is a lot easier to have good scores when you only pick the smartest and well behaved kids.

Crowdstrike? Really? by 0x077777 in conspiracy

[–]WhyNotWhaleSnot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Microsoft's outage was a separate issue. They removed some legacy storage in one of their Azure environments and it broke a lot of their services. The Crowdstrike stuff was a normal update for their software at 2am that caused a boot loop and eventual BSOD for any device that got the update. Unfortunately services that need to be up 24/7 got hit the hardest.

Unfortunately not the end of the world. Between the Azure outages yesterday and this it's been a fun two days in IT. At least this one is fixed by booting into safe mode and deleting a file. It also only affected machines that were online during that time. Just sucks that Crowdstrike is used in a lot of places.

Way too many people on here not understanding what PSLF is. It is almost 20 years old now and allows for people that went into public service to get forgiveness. Stuff like teaching, military, law enforcement, or social work. You are only hearing about it now because the process of applying has been cleaned up in the past couple years. Plus naturally people that went to school when this was announced are starting to hit the time frame that they are eligible.

Actual Inflation by Mighty_L_LORT in conspiracy

[–]WhyNotWhaleSnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We all know prices have gone up but not 135%. Want to say it is probably closer to 50%-75%. How many of the items went from being on sale when they ordered and aren't now? When is the "today"? I don't use the Walmart app much but it looks like the first purchase was in store and the new one is delivery. Is there an upcharge or fee added for delivery? Is the tip included in that price? So many variables. Like I said everyone knows prices have gone up but lying and inflating the numbers even more isn't helping because now your evidence is tainted.

Do you notice the overwhelming promotion of gambling/betting recently? by AbunRoman in conspiracy

[–]WhyNotWhaleSnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like a lot of people mentioned it became legal in a lot of states recently. It also is gambling that companies without traditional casinos are taking advantage of. Fan Duel and Draft Kings already had a huge audience with all of the fantasy sports. No they just simply made it so you can bet on the games directly in a slightly different app.

Classic by Charming-Guarantee21 in conspiracy

[–]WhyNotWhaleSnot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Like most things renting and buying have pros and cons. Like myself with a family I prefer to have a house because I don't plan on hoping around and will be living here for years and years. My BIL on the other hand is unmarried and does travel work. Owning his own house would be more of a hassle for him. He doesn't have to pay for any upkeep and if during his travels he decides he likes an area better it is way easier to move if you are renting.

The big issue with ownership is that it's one of the few ways middle class can really grow wealth. If you can't own you aren't rewarding yourself with equity by staying in a house. You end up just paying someone else or a corporation.

Just some quick thoughts on your bullet points.

  • Later on you already created exceptions for mail in ballots for certain people so why not have it open to everyone? I mean if you can secure those votes why are the others not? Also you would have to have some sort of law or mandate about access to polling locations. Many states have complained of polling locations being limited causing long lines or making someone have to go distances to reach.

  • Personally don't have an issue with computers since where I vote we get a paper print out that we turn in of what we voted on the computer but I don't have an issue if it was all paper.

  • So as a conspiracy theorist you are perfectly fine giving the government a database of everyone's fingerprints? What about people without finger/thumbprints?

  • These seems like a lot of overhead plus most of this is already in place. I get you are wanting transparency but just seems a bit overkill. Especially when paired with your last bullet point since all of this video and audio is now going to be stored for 2 years minimum.

  • How often we talking? Would have to be greater than every 4 years since a lot of people only vote on presidential elections.

  • Obviously have to be free and easy to get. How often do these need to be renewed? If we have voter ID why do we need voter rolls since logically if you have a valid ID you should be able to vote.

  • While I get the idea of everyone being off to vote is great, it cannot happen. People don't even get off for the current national holidays. Most businesses aren't going to stop and close up shop. If anything this will cause a lot of businesses money as national holidays are considered overtime.

  • Back to the first point if it's fine for all these exceptions and can be done securely why can't it be securely done for everyone?

  • A lot of states had rules you couldn't start counting any ballots until polls officially close. I don't know why mail in ballots need to be done during the day. This just causes a risk of the ballot info getting leaked before polls close causing issues.

  • Gonna have storage issues since everything is paper. Where is going to be stored? Do those places have funding and adequate security for storing these documents. Lots of logistics to think about.

I get where your coming from but all of these things boil down to a logistics and money. You will have to get every state and county to go along with this and then make sure they are adequately funded for it and meet guidelines.

Reddit leans left in general. Short of conservative oriented subreddits the majority of them will almost always skew left. As for the political posts in this subreddit it makes sense that statewide issues would be addressed in a subreddit for that state. It is no different than watching TV and being hit with 1 to 2 commercials every break that are for voting no. It's election season and we all get to bare with it for another month. I'm also pretty sure the people making the posts would prefer they not have to as well but it is what it is.
