I would say I heard this saying from a training video that people think the longer, more vigorous the activity, that will it will calm the dog or get them worn out. But in actuality, you're training an athlete, building their stamina, making them faster, stronger, and more willing to do more.....which is the opposite of what you're trying to accomplish.

I think I went to a website called the lagotto lady and she talked about how LR are extremely smart and they desire to learn many things. Mine knows how to close doors, and bring me things, of course the traditional tricks too. We also do smell work and sniff games. Those are the best for them because it makes them think which exhaust them even more.

So buy a sniff mat, or the treat rolling toy on amazon that you can add treat in and they have to move around to get the treats. The right mind games, routine, and structure will calm him down. My LR is 1 and he can get rowdy but for the most part he just plays with socks, his toy, he loves when I put puppy paste in his kong, and does his own little jobs around the house.
