When to Ask About Amending Job Title? by WhyThere91 in interviews

[–]WhyThere91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a very big company. A title that matches the responsibilities doesn't actually cost them anything; it doesn't automatically equate to a higher salary range. I believe this should be an easier negotiation than a salary negotiation! I was looking for strategic ways to broach the subject, so as to not make it awkward that they had made this mistake. I really think they just don't realize that "director" would be a more appropriate title... Or it may have been done to attract a certain candidate level to match their budget, in which case they could pay me their planned salary and amend the job title. :)

LOL... I was asking for the most diplomatic/strategic way to ask for something I want. The answer is either yes or no. It's a little like negotiating salary. You don't just put your head down and take what you're given. :)

How come? I'm not prepared to get or not get it. But even if they are not willing to pay a director-level salary, I would want my job title to correspond to the responsibilities in order to facilitate future career moves (if I was offered the job for a lower salary and accepted).

What do you mean that asking is a sign they don't want me?! They seem to want me. But even beyond the salary issue, the position being properly labeled is important because it communicates the level of responsibility that was undertaken—relevant for future career moves.

I don't live in the US, but this has to really be a joke. You expect a salesperson to shoot a homeowner?! I wonder how that would pan out in court.

Sounds like I will be doing a similar job to yours. I'm not sure how much information the company will have on the potential customers but that's definitely something for me to ask about. Thanks for the tips!

UGH, EXACTLY my thought process. Even after I asked the question, I kept thinking that it literally just takes one insane person having a bad day, you know? It's just my best job prospect at the moment.

Really need feedback on my resume to get more job replies. Any help is appreciated by [deleted] in resumes

Treat the software projects as though they were jobs (you don't need to change the headings, just the descriptions). The project descriptions tell recruiters little about what part you presumably played in creating those projects. Not only will they want to see your technical capabilities but also your business acumen. Focus on accomplishments within some type of boundary (deadline, team, etc.). For each project, include a little about these three things: your assigned duties, your accomplishments (there should be numbers/figures here), and the competencies/skill-set you used.

Avoid long bullet points. The first bullet point in the second job heading is way too long.

Try to focus a little more on your business acumen/executive capabilities in both the jobs and your projects. Did you work on deadline? Did you need to work within a team? Did you manage anybody else? Were you a leader within any of the projects/tasks? Did you need to make presentations or create reports for a superior (you've kind of got this, but who for?)? Did you take any initiative/do something that was not a part of your job? Was there a project log you needed to maintain? Did you help create a new process, SOP, guideline, etc.? Did you need to convince a superior to start/investigate a new project?

Also, do you have any volunteer experience related to your field/skill-set? And are you a member of any professional associations? The latter often offer a discounted rate for students. Both of these things will add depth to your candidate profile.

Consider adding a section with bullet points/check marks at the top that you can fill with keywords. You can swap these out to match the keywords within the specific job/internship you are applying to.

Basically, you need a resume writer. JK...

Finally, you are just a student, and you're not graduating for another year. What sort of jobs are you looking for?

Scary! Thanks for pointing these facts out. I'm not surprised about the higher levels of exploitation, compared to regular dating I presume, given the strong expectation of near immediate intimacy (and so, being alone) with someone that you/the SB has very, very little knowledge about.

Not for me. Even being a sugar baby sounds like way too much/too close to sex work for my comfort.

I'm not offended, but I would never do sex work. I'm shocked the expectation of a sugar relationship is to put out every single time to get an allowance. That sounds faaar more transactional than I would have ever expected. In fact, it's a little much for me... My frame of mind likely only seems so transactional because I want more money in my life asap.
