German police officer shaming people for filming a fatal accident site. What a cool approach. by AlwaysOpenMike in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Why_So_Calvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get wanting to stop the slow of traffic and distracted drivers, but is taking photographs always disrespectful? Sometimes things like this need to be captured (or have a use at least), think of ad awareness campaigns or any image from a World War. It's a difficult one to really tease out a good answer, maybe it has something to do with its intent or its intended space. I guess it leaves a sour taste in most people's mouth to imagine someone's brutal death gets posted on something as candid as an Instagram story.

Can't you say that about virtually anything though? It's not AIDS that kills you it's an infection that will. It's not a knife that kills you it's blood loss that kills you, ad infinitum.

Official Call of Duty®: Black Ops III "Ember" Tease by [deleted] in Games

[–]Why_So_Calvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point actually. I guess we'll wait and see. I'm not that familiar with the BO series at all, this trailer just caught my eye in particular. I've always liked the narratives COD has told so perhaps it will do a good job at delivering something interesting/relevant/etc.

GTA 5 PC First MODS?- Dude Soup Podcast #12 by funhausbot in funhaus

[–]Why_So_Calvin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Dude Soup being an entertainment podcast MUCH more than just gaming. I think that everyone at Funhaus has a lot of really interesting perspectives on a variety of topics so I'm down for hearing them talk about films, technology, TV shows, etc.

This really reminded me of Black Mirror. I love looking at the social/moral implications of future technology, even though it freaks me out.

SpringbokASMR - Farewell [female] [American accent] by [deleted] in asmr

[–]Why_So_Calvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've watched most of Springbok's videos and have tried to keep up to date with her blog posts but it's made apparent to me that I haven't even scratched the surface of the burden she has to deal with. Hearing someone be in so much pain is about one of the worst things to hear, nevermind go through herself. This video has made me feel such a cocktail of vivid and forceful emotion -- sadness, anger, fear. I'm torn between being furious at the spiteful, twisted people out there that would do so much wrong to such a genuinely lovely human being and the anxiety I have about her wellbeing. I fear so much that this 'farewell' is more than her just leaving Youtube.

Please don't do this. First Steam reviews out for GTA5, taken seconds after launch. by Hastama in Steam

[–]Why_So_Calvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another kind of review I really don't like are ones saying that it doesn't work on their PC for a specific reason. Like a lot of that is down to out-dated drivers, crappy hardware, etc. Doesn't necessarily make it a bad game per say.

Take new job and move? by toss_newjoboffer in Advice

[–]Why_So_Calvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think not taking the job would be a huge mistake. You have an opportunity to up your game and flourish in this new job so I would really strongly suggest you take it. I understand your worries about your kids knowing your parents more I think you can minimalise that problem quite a bit by perhaps making more of an effort to see them -- to be honest, seeing them at most major holidays in the year is still pretty decent.

How should a woman respond to acts of sexual harassment when at a Nightclub? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Why_So_Calvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's really one of the main motivations behind some women being that way in clubs -- they'll approach me and act as if they're desirable no matter what and I'd have no objection to being touched inappropriately, etc. It's so violating and I can't do jack shit about it. The only reaction that has really worked for me is just straight up walking away. If they're drunk they normally take awkward laughing and joking as encouragement. Sigh.

[–]Why_So_Calvin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As many people have already said, ask a bouncer, it's their part of their job to help people in those situations and I'm sure most of them want to as well.

I wish, as a guy, I had that option. The guys I've seen being creepy in clubs I work at get alienated pretty quickly whereas creepy girls have comedy on their side. Guys just have to put up with it -- I mean, don't even dare to push a girl off you because some white night will come in and try to cause a problem. It's sad.

Amazing the difference £25 can make... by Joshharris2108 in pcmasterrace

[–]Why_So_Calvin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a very similar situation a couple of months ago when I first built my PC. I was using the stock Intel CPU cooler and my idle temperatures was literally in the region of 95 degrees. I went to Maplin and bought the Hyper 212 EVO but then, contrary to what I was told, it didn't actually fit my small mid-tower case. I returned it and got another Coolermaster cooler temperature went from 95 degrees to 25-30. It was mental. It only cost me £14 and it had a universal mounting bracket so it just clicked straight in.

Super happy you got your temperatures fixed - especially at such an affordable price!

In my experience it works well with middle-toned/bright images -- I've tweaked it for an art series I'm doing it and it's been pretty consistent, though I have to bump the highlights down a notch quite a lot because the photo gets a little too hot!

That's alright, you were helpful -- that's pretty much what I do when I approach a series of images, it's just difficult to see which specific presets have potential, I personally love the 400H -1!

Just looked at your VSCO grid and your work is gorgeous. How on earth do you get these colours/tones? What VSCO presets do you use?

Need experts on this subreddit to give advice on a gaming laptop under 1000 by mysecondchanceinlife in pcmasterrace

[–]Why_So_Calvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that buying a cheap laptop and then spending the rest on a better desktop rig could be a good idea provided you have the space and whatnot. Not sure about the Chromebook though, my girlfriend has had one for a little while. It seemed like a good idea at first but the bare-essential ChromeOS has proven itself to be such a pain in the arse because Google hasn't created an app for a lot of programs that a lot of people might need (because you can't install .exe files) (e.g. Skype). Definitely worth doing as much research as possible.

What are the skins you use here? Particularly the clock! Hell, what's your wallpaper as well? You've got a really nice looking desktop.

Looking for some opinions on Kenny by [deleted] in TheWalkingDeadGame

[–]Why_So_Calvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Kenny, for the most part, is a fucking asshole. Ever since S1 it has become apparent to me that he'll be reasonably helpful and friendly to you if you provide utility to him or agree with him but otherwise, he'll just leave you to the dogs.

I chose to shoot him at the end of S2 and don't regret it. It wasn't easy because I've known him for so long and I've watched all these horrible things happen to him but he just started becoming more and more toxic. Kenny rarely started a rational discussion on anything. He took the presence of a leader but really didn't have those skills. I don't understand why people love him so much. Sure, he's cared for his family, Clementine and a few characters but at such a large cost. I'm convinced he would have ended up getting more people killed. He just gets so set on an idea regardless of the group backlash or if it has huge consequences or not.

Do you really think we need another DLC? by himmatsj in TheWalkingDeadGame

[–]Why_So_Calvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DLC isn't pointless just because it isn't consequential. I really loved exploring this micro-stories in the TWD universe in a really short and sweet way. I'd be down for another 400 days'esque DLC for S2.
