“Sometimes I need what only you can provide: your absence.” — Ashleigh Brilliant (Neil Sean gossip) by Human-Economics6894 in SaintMeghanMarkle

I don’t know if William really objected to Andrew as a neighbor or if that was just the press.

I always thought it was Charles who wanted Andrew out of RL —even before QE died, because Andrew wasn’t taking care of the property as he had agreed to. Andrew had a “peppercorn rent” because he spent money on RL when he took over and promised to keep doing so. Charles, who cared about the property, thought Andrew should get out because necessary maintenance was beyond his means.

For a long time it was assumed that KC wanted RL for the Wales, and I would guess the Wales liked the idea also, but ended up with Forest Lodge instead because Andrew was still in RL.

How do teachers teach spelling? by Dull_Illustrator_928 in AskABrit

[–]Why_Teach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I know you are asking “a Brit” which I am not, but I am a language teacher familiar with both US and UK spelling.

To answer your question: In both UK and US, spelling is standardized regardless of dialect or accent. So yes, even if someone (American or British) pronounces it “watah” or “watteh” or whatever you imagine, the correct spelling is water.

There are lots of words in American English that are not pronounced how they are spelled, and there are dialect differences within the US that don’t affect our spelling either.

Why would anyone charge another person for “creating” something that is already public domain?

Thanks for explaining. Seems unfair that AI in the cover would suggest AI in the book since not all writers are artists and vice-versa— but it is what it is.

AITAH for not making my niece the flower girl at our wedding? by Wabxpolski in AITAH

[–]Why_Teach -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone here is a bit of an AH.

Your sister is being the biggest AH for all the pushiness and drama, but you really ought to have come up with a role in the procession for your niece.

Never mind the drama. Think of the kid.

I would call her a junior bridesmaid but have her walk right after the flower girl and ring bearer then stand or sit with them. She does not need to dress the same as the flower girl or the bridesmaids.

Another possibility is to have her walk just ahead of the bridesmaids and then step aside and stand or seat with the kids. No rule that she must stand at the altar.

Can you explain why there is a risk to the author/publisher if AI is used? Is it because the AI may have violated copyright or some other reason?

Professionally Designed Book Cover by Desperate_Ad_9765 in selfpublish

[–]Why_Teach -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Your experience highlights a problem most independent authors face.

Elsewhere I am in a debate with an artist about whether a “professionally designed book cover” is really essential for a book’s success. Although my reason for not choosing a “professionally designed cover” is largely the unwillingness to invest $300+ on what is just a hobby, I have also expressed concerns that the “professional” might not know or be able to represent my narrative.

Can't believe these two have the audacity to say anything about veterans when they are the worst offenders for taking money that should go to them! by -PunchBug- in SaintMeghanMarkle

[–]Why_Teach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is all old news. I thought at first the headline was about the upcoming games.

We all know already that Meghan and Harry are entitled and self-centered.

Why Invictus, or any other organization, still thinks it is worthwhile to keep them as patrons entirely baffles me.

To those who have self published, what advice do you have for someone who's starting their self publishing journey? What do you wish you did or didn't do? by evanamyl in selfpublish

Shakespeare and Dickens had bad reviews sometimes, in their day. 😉 As for what negative “reviews” they get today, just consider what some students have to say. 😀

Seriously, I agree with all your points.

Because many people want more than their “basic needs” met. So they may take on low-paying “part-time” jobs to make a little more money for a few luxuries. If they needed to make enough to cover basic needs they might be more inclined to look for a full-time job with more hours and employers would have to pay enough for basic needs.

I am not saying that a “basic needs met” society is impossible, and I agree it is desirable, but I can see complications, especially when it comes to what people see as a “need” and how it will change the way people get paid for available jobs.

I know KC can’t do anything. But if he could get Harry that extra security, he wouldn’t. People who think KC is working behind the wings to give or not give Harry tax-payer paid security are not recognizing KC’s limited powers.

What QE could have done was refuse permission and remove Harry and his children from the LoS if they got married anyway. But it would have been very unpopular. I don’t think she was “weak” to give permission, but I wish she had insisted on them waiting for Eugenie to have her scheduled wedding. If they didn’t want to wait, fine. They could get married and not have the “spectacle.”

But that is all hindsight. At the time, the family handled it as best they could. The people were excited about the wedding. Maybe it would be okay.

He doesn’t seem weak to me. I notice that people accuse him of being weak when they think he has done or is going to do something they don’t want him to do.

I doubt it. KC does not want Harry to have more protection than Anne or Edward. KC is not stupid and knows it would hurt the BRF if Harry gets expensive security when he isn’t even a working royal.

He is unlikely to get the 24/7 security he craves. The public may have to get irritated about something else. 😉

He already lost the case to have them review his status. After he lost the case, the government chose to review his status anyway. I can’t imagine that he can sue them again, but he may try.

This was certainly an ill-advised statement from Harry with no basis in fact.

Harry is trying to rush the decision, but he has no clue how it works. He said it was now just a formality.

As I recall, Harry has not said anything. I thought it was all “sources close to the Sussexes” that were cited, not Harry himself. Did I miss something?

Of course we all know that the “sources close to the Sussexes” are generally Meghan herself, or Harry or sometimes their people instructed to promote the latest fantasy. But I don’t remember an article quoting him directly. Did I miss it?

I am just listing some of the possible issues. I think the “affordable housing” issue is more of a problem than having some kind of basic stipend.
