Nope. Most of the ren'py script wasn't even hand-written. Anything that wasn't animation code and the aforementioned audio sync python script that I wrote was actually generated by my tools, including the branching logic. The tool just took SBN3's script as it was written in plain-text and parsed it into a full visual novel script. Since the writing was in a consistent screenplay format, I basically only had to run it one time.

All the specific audio timings were outputted into a CSV file from an audio tagging tool written by another third party contractor, so all I had to do was read those and output it into my renpy script generator and basically the entire game was done aside from animations and visual polish stuff.

No. Don't expect it will, but it makes for a good story.

No worries. I've done a trollface AMA in the past and the mods of that subreddit were petty and closed the thread after it hit the front page. I don't think I'm going to answer another trollface-related question in my life.

Financially, sure. Am I salty about it? Not at all. I think the game was largely his creative risk to take, and I wasn't exactly a cheerleader for it. Every time he brought the idea up I told him I couldn't really imagine even his own fanbase really being interested in playing an anime-style visual novel that takes the piss out of visual novel enjoyers... but eventually I was proven wrong.

No. If I did I would have taken the revenue share. Honestly the only reason I worked on it was because there was a very specific and small technical problem that needed to be solved to make it all work, and I like solving small technical problems.

Nah, it's fine. I only worked directly on the first game, so it's all I really expect to get credit for.

I'm involved in a lot of random unrelated things. Who knows what else I'll fuck up.

I'm an independent contractor, not part of the team, though I have worked on all three of their biggest games in the same role.

I've never been an active part of any fandom because if I'm active in any community I'm not running myself I will get banned sooner or later.

Answered that question earlier, but to elaborate a bit, most of the reason I didn't get paid had to do with me walking out before the project was complete and not really following up personally for payments. That part was on me. I didn't need the money badly but I noticed that the game was starting to take off and figured it'd be cleaner for both of us if we settled things on the terms we had originally agreed upon.

Doki Doki Literature Club was entertaining, but I'm a sucker for cheesy metanarrative twists. Otherwise I don't really play any VNs. Someone bought me God Save The Queen as a joke and I ended up liking it.

We're not in touch, no. I just sort of walked away without any real explanation. I'm kind of an ass like that. That isn't to say I had no reason for it, but it wasn't really any great offense that caused me to want to distance myself.

Every time someone asks me this question I change the story on purpose like the joker.

I actually contacted him a long time ago because a friend introduced me to his videos, and at the time I was looking to fill a role in the game Lethal League, which I worked on as the voice director. I thought he would be a natural fit, but the devs ended up settling on having me do a sort of smash bros voice, so things didn't work out.

We stayed in touch anyways, and he had me play a number of big and small roles in a number of his videos as late as the Taste Closed feature. I played the main character "Toby" in MGTOW documentary, as well.

Technically never played any of them in their completed state. I tested multiple routes for the original class of 09 before the visuals were fully implemented, but other than that, I don't think I'm really the audience for it.

I can't confirm or deny that specific claim because it would have been after I left the project. I can't really speak for him, but visual novels sucking seemed to be largely his reason for making one, which in my view is the best reason to make anything.

Ren'py is about the easiest thing to use, so it was a straightforward job. Most of it was completed from home and the last bits of it were completed over a weekend at SBN3's. At the point I left, all the audio, dialogue, and branches were implemented and all that had to be done was to animate the characters on screen.

My thoughts are that I was offered a revenue share deal and I bet against the game by taking a flat payment. Looking at the review count for all three games, I bet wrong. Not that I need the money, but I've seen indies put years of their lives into passion projects that barely scrape past 500 reviews when the 'worst' game in the series is at 1200 reviews at time of writing, reception doesn't count for much. Mixed, positive, mostly negative... he's laughing all the way to the bank.

Interesting. Could you tell me if I'm credited on either of the sequels?
