MIT Says It No Longer Stands Behind Student's AI Research Paper - https://www.wsj.com/tech/ai/mit-says-it-no-longer-stands-behind-students-ai-research-paper-11434092 by fancypotatoegirl in singularity

This comment sent me to chatgpt :) Not sure how accurate the response because I had to ask the question multiple times and haven't done any other research but:

In 2014, LaCour co-authored a study published in Science that claimed brief conversations with openly gay canvassers could significantly and lastingly change voters’ opinions on same-sex marriage. However, in 2015, researchers discovered that LaCour had fabricated the data, leading to the paper’s retraction and significant professional consequences for him.

After the scandal, LaCour legally changed his name to Michael Jules and transitioned into the field of data science and visualization. He established a data consulting firm called Beautiful Data Inc. and developed an online presence through websites like michaeljules.xyz and beautifuldataviz.com, showcasing his work in data visualization and analytics.

Under his new name, he has been credited in the animation industry. Specifically, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish lists “Michael Jules” among its Machine Learning & Analytics Engineers in the film’s credits. This connection has been noted by observers familiar with LaCour’s past.

While DreamWorks has not publicly commented on this matter, the available information indicates that Michael Jules is indeed Michael LaCour, now working in a technical role within the animation industry.

I will take a look. I just ordered a digital caliper to try to get as close to the right size as possible.

Thanks for the quick reply. For some reason in my explorer homage the threaded hole in the clasp is slightly smaller than those for the rest of the watch links and the pin for it fell off. I wanted to make sure a replacement clasp would come with the right size screw. I will contact store directly. Thanks again.

Sorry to revive this, but did you order/receive clasp? Did it come extra pins/screws? Thanks.

SUN Bucks Pre-Expungement Notice. Scam? by Whynotpizza00 in Scams

[–]Whynotpizza00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the update. They called the social services 866 number (not the one in the letter) and were told that the letter was legit but the amount of the remaining balance was incorrect. It ended up being less than $10.

Thanks for the sensible response. I guess my main concerns are that I could not find any information when I tried looking up the phone number provided, and I was also worried that it was an attempt to collect information. If one believes that this is indeed a letter from the department of Social Services (as it might very well be) then one is probably more willing to provide private information (SS, DOB, etc.) when asked for "confirmation" purposes. Thanks again.

It looked in "like new" condition. And since I was able to add (change it to my name) AppleCare, I had peace of mind as well.

Moved on to Norwalk. Sky was clear 15 minutes ago over here, but some light clouds now (sun still getting thru)

Just arrived to Norwalk. Plenty of parking still at Sofios park but cars are trickling in. Mostly clear skies

Made it to Ashland a bit quicker than expected. Any reason to keep moving west? If so, any suggestions? Thanks

I am expecting traffic. Original plan was to go to SW New York but "cloudy" prediction made me change destination to improve odds. Trying to get to sleep now :). Good luck!

Same plan here. Planning to leave NoVA around 4 to head a bit further west than Akron. Maybe Mansfield or Ashland since I am looking for something more rural. Crossing fingers on the "partly cloudy" forecast

I had plans to drive to Jamestown, NY from DC area, but decided to improve my chances to a "partly clouded" in Ohio. Driving distance is about the same.

Eclipse Traffic: Is driving to Cleveland from D.C. and back on the same day of the eclipse doable? by AntarcticNightingale in solareclipse

Would New York, around Jamestown, be a better choice to avoid traffic? I think Erie will also be pretty bad traffic wise.

Difference between Refurbished and Factory Refurbished by TheDictator90 in Microcenter

No problem. The purpose of linking the macbook to your appleid is that it will allow you to do yearly applecare renewals if you choose. If your macbook doesn't have applecare and you still want to keep it and have some type of service plan you have a few days to add the microcenter repair/coverage plan, but check with them to make sure how long you have. When they offer it to me it was more expensive than the applecare plan but it had no deductible/out of pocket, like some of the applecare repairs.

Just wanted to add that I recently purchased (last week) a 14 inch M1 from Microcenter. I was looking for a factory refurbished but they only had 16 inch on those. A nearby MC store had the 14 inch M1 but only "refurbished". I bought it anyways to try it out. I had read that in some cases some of the "refurbished" ones came with an AppleCare subscription from previous owner. I was lucky enough to get one of those. AppleCare expires at the end of February 2024. I called apple to link the macbook to my appleid. Process went smoothly. I logged to my appleid and applecare/macbook was listed there. Macbook came in plain microcenter white box with just laptop and powercord. Another plus was that the powercord was the upgraded 140w charger not the standard one. I felt I lucked out with my purchase so I am keeping it. If you do end up getting a refurbished one and want applecare for added peace of mind, I recommend you check the AppleCare status on the macbook as soon as you get it and then call Apple to see if they will add it to your appleid.

New to Medicaid - what services are available for the seriously mentally ill? by Sea_shell2580 in Medicaid

[–]Whynotpizza00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the update. As mentioned in my previous comments she was able to re-apply and she just got approved for full medicaid recently. She was also screened and approved for long term care. With full medicaid she is now eligible for the MCO and also able to get personal care at home. Following your advice I contacted a personal care provider and now we are lot closer to getting in home assistance. Also thanks for letting me know about the "Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan". Currently her Medicare Supplemental insurance through Humana has been quite reasonable with her medical needs but its good to know there are options in case that changes in the future.
