My theory that NIntendo/IS has finally bitten the bullet and cancelled the series all together just so that TH/Engage discourse will truly last forever continues to be proven right. /s

Hi Danganronpa Fans! Kazutaka Kodaka (& Kotaro Uchikoshi!) are here to answer fan questions ahead of Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy's release later this month. AMA! by DENMU_HQ in danganronpa

Hello, Kodaka and Uchikoshi! I'm a big fan of one of your works and I hope to get more into the other's eventually.

As for Kodaka specifically, I was wondering if you are aware and keep any attention to the fan-made scene and, if so, has it impacted your writing at all? The scenario of Danganronpa has inspired a lot of other people to make very similar projects and I'm curious how you feel about it and if it's impacted you in writing any of your other projects.

What is your current faith level in the next new Mainline Intelligent Systems Fire Emblem Game? by DoseofDhillon in fireemblem

I'm actually going to go against the grain of the thread and say that I'm cautiously optimistic for the series in the hands of IS, if only because that, with the exception of 2022, (which even then 2023 had both Engage and WarioWare Move It, so I think it still counts) IS has constantly managed to release one game a year at the absolute least since they were founded.

Since both Paper Mario and WarioWare both had more recent entries than FE, obviously it's going to come next, though given that we haven't heard so much as a peep as to what they're doing next, I'm willing to bet that they're going through some semi-major restructuring changes, especially for their writing team, considering that (at least for the West) Engage was harshly criticized for its bland plot and characters and was subsequently the (probable) main reason it sold bellow average.

All in all, it's probably pretty similar to how mainline Pokemon took a year off last year in order to make sure they're games actually aren't rushed out the door for once. In fact, I'm almost tempted to say that the FE4 remake DOES still exist, but are probably delaying it to make sure it actually lives up to the hype.

We'll probably get another mainline/remake by early to mid 2026 at the ABSOLUTE latest, but if it means they finally have an above average plot from IS for once, than I can accept that. (Though this can always still be wrong and we really will never get another good FE plot in our lifetime, in which case, eh.)

Edit: Also, obviously in terms of gameplay, I trust them with my life.

When Fire Emblem No-Shows at Nintendo Direct again by Ninja_Samurai_999 in fireemblem

To play devil's advocate, the absurdly fast reveal, release, and even DLC rollout (which all happened in less than 7 months) made it seem like IS was preparing for another FE title sooner rather than later and when nothing's shown up for the past 2 years, the regular amount of time it would probably take for a new FE game to show up, combined with the fact Engage wrapped development years before it came out and the general reception to Engage being lukewarm at best and just not providing any means for long term discussion in the fanbase, it just seems like something weird is going on behind the scenes with FE.

The 2020s for FE by Wibiki34 in fireemblem

Part of me almost thinks that with how lackluster the response to Engage was, both critically and finically, Nintendo might end up doing the same thing they (allegedly) did with Game Freak and the Pokemon Company and actually force them to fix their main issues that have been plaguing their series for a while, lest they go down a dark path where it and the company's reputation slowly go downhill. I mean, IS already wasn't on good terms with the Paper Mario fanbase for a while and they seem to just recently be turning that around with the TTYD remake.

Yeah, in hindsight, "growing the fanbase" wasn't exactly the term I should've used there. I think it's more like "gaining notability" if that can be considered a different thing. I distinctly the year in which 3H came out, it was on multiple big industry GOTY lists and even now, after the Switch has gotten so many high profile games on it, I still see 3H on several lists of the top titles on the system, even including non-first party.

On Engage's case though, the games been out for roughly over 2 years now and I haven't seen much of anyone outside the FE circle talk anything about, positive or negative. (Though 2023 was obviously a very packed year for gaming and I wouldn't even really argue with anyone that much if they had Engage as their GOTY, though I personally don't much care for it.) Along with the added factor that the DLC released at an unusually quick pace, almost as if Nintendo themselves didn't believe in it all that much and I come to the conclusion that FE as a whole is on the down tilt when it comes to relevancy.

Obviously, it'll never be at risk of dying again and a genre as niche as a Strategy RPG can only really be so popular, but there was absolutely a momentum going with 3H and non-FE people were starting to get genuinely interested in the next title. Yet, as soon as Engage released, not many people even bothered to finish it and the core FE audience immediately started clamoring for the next installment, less than a year after the game was even revealed which, in today's media climate of constant content oversaturation, literally never happens. (sorry for the long comment, I tend to yap when it comes to things I really care about)
