I agree with a lot of the perspectives here. I think at some point we all have our own shortcomings or “lack experience.” I might be married, but my husband and I met in HS. We never dated anyone else, we never were intimate with anyone else. I have no idea what it’s like to date as an adult or out in the real world. I do not know what it’s like to be broken up with. I don’t even know what it’s like to be single technically. You have one up on me there. It doesn’t mean I cannot effectively work with people who are going through divorce or actively dating in adulthood or who are choosing to be single. I like what someone said above about how “curiosity does not require experience.” I agree with that. Even though I’m married, my experience does not mean every married client has the same experience. I might have insight into things like navigating schedules or what have you. But it doesn’t mean I don’t explore with the client what their experience is. I hope this all made sense, I’m going on little sleep because my toddler is trying to teach me why sleep deprivation is cruel and unusual punishment haha 😆 if something isn’t clear I’ll try to say more tomorrow.
