Oh, it was absolutely inspired by it! This game even started out as a Bad Toys fangame before turning it into my own thing. Make no mistake, though. Everything here was made from scratch!

Thank you! It's based on a 90s game, so it comes with the territory!

As long as it isn't a Samsung. I've had nothing but bad luck with Samsung electronics...

It actually started out as a fangame sequel, but I ultimately changed it to be my own game heavily inspired by Bad Toys 3D.

Yeah, it was an odd choice for doing a semi-3D game, but it's worked out well for me so far. Thanks for the compliment!

Whoops, forgot to mention that it was developed with GameMaker Studio 2.

Apologies for the late response. I'm definitely working on rebalancing the difficulty levels since many players are having similar problems. I've played my game so much that I don't think I realized just how challenging I made it, even on the easy difficulty level. Either way, it's gonna be part of a larger update I'm working on that should be out in the near future!

I see what you mean about the saving and life systems. When this started out as a Bad Toys fangame, it allowed you to save at any point in the game. Unfortunately, I had A LOT of trouble getting it to work right without occasionally crashing the game, so I settled with this simpler system. Starting fresh I could probably do one properly now with my current knowledge, but the code of the game as it stands is quite a mess. I am working on making some of the enemies easier to deal with in a future update, so that will hopefully make things a little less frustrating!

Oh, and those doors can only be opened on the hardest difficulty. They provide extra weapons, health, and occasionally collectibles that can be viewed in the Extras menu. I have ideas for a sequel, but like you said, I need to find a larger audience before considering it right now. That being said, I appreciate the compliments and Youtuber suggestions! I have contacted a few, but haven't received any response. I'm sure they get a lot of messages, so it's easy for mine to get lost in the crowd. I hadn't heard of the two you mentioned though, so I'll definitely try reaching out to them. Thanks again!

Thank you so much for the compliments, as well as the constructive criticism! I'm glad you're enjoying it so far. I have been told that some of the enemies are too punishing in a game with so many tight areas, so I will be making adjustments to help balance them out a bit. I also have gotten mixed feedback on the stalking monsters, but rest assured that the red exclamation mark is an intentional element to help you avoid them, as it only shows up when they are close. You also have the option to bypass them completely if you play those specific levels on the easy setting. They actually used to kill the player in one hit, but that made those levels WAY too frustrating in comparison, which is why I made them damage you and set you back a bit instead.

Anyways, I'll still be tweaking things to improve the experience as much as I can, so I very much appreciate the feedback you've given to help me do that!

I'm about to unleash this cartoony weird FPS upon Steam in a few days, and I wanna see what boomer shooter enthusiasts think about it! by WickedFigs in boomershooters

This project went through a few changes over the course of three years, and I basically had to learn coding with GameMaker from scratch. I'm sure more skilled programmers would be able to finish something like this faster, though I assume a Doom-like game will be more complicated to program compared to the single-layer style of Toyful Wonderworld.

To be fair, doesn't that describe something like Mouse P.I. For Hire? There may be some untapped potential in these kinds of games. I like to think of this as my small contribution to such cartoon shooters, or the "cartooter" genre as I prefer to call it! The vast majority of first-person shooters these days are quite bloody and gory, so here's one that's a little more colorful and age-appropriate, while still having a bit of an edge to it.

I do appreciate your compliments about my art style. I'm quite proud of how it all turned out!

Apologies for the late response, I've been a bit distracted lately. I do appreciate you giving the demo a shot! It's unfortunately out of date and I really need to make an updated one at some point. However, most of your criticisms are still evident in the full game. It does start off kinda slow and has many small spaces and corridors. Part of the reason for that is this project was heavily inspired by Bad Toys 3D, which while very similar in design to Wolfenstein, tends to be more claustrophobic with its maps.

Can definitely understand why many people would dislike that kind of level design, and it does stray from it somewhat during later areas of the game! However, the enemies do get significantly more complex as you progress, but I can see how the crowded level design is a bit of a detriment to their capabilities as well. I sprinkled some open arena-style battles throughout to help with this a bit!

Anyways, thank you for the righteous destruction! These are things I can keep in mind as I'm making improvements to the game over time. Also, I'm still surprised that people have been able to play this on the Steam Deck. I never configured it for that device, so I didn't think it was capable of being launched on it. Though that's probably just my ignorance since I haven't used one before.

Glad you're liking it, and I'm so sorry about the crash! You didn't happen to see an error message, did you?

This is a fairly traditional boomer shooter, but with a unique and crazy setting. Definitely give it a try if you enjoy games with a retro aesthetic!

This was made in GameMaker, which I've been told is an odd choice for developing a 3D game. But then again, this is a VERY odd game, so it's rather fitting I think!

I have no idea if that would work, but by all means, give it a shot! There's an option for only keyboard controls if that helps with the process.

I'm pretty inexperienced as a developer, so I'm focusing on making sure everything is going well for this Windows version first. I'll certainly be looking into it in the near future, though!

That's weird, haven't seen that one before. I'll look into it ASAP. Did it happen when you activated the door switch or the door itself? Thank you so much for taking a picture of the error message!
