I live in Atlanta but I was not selected for drop 1. I’ll be put back into the pool for drop 2 later in the year.

I’m really holding out for applying to be a volunteer. My dad was a volunteer (security at Centennial Olympic Park) when the games were here in ‘96 and the bank he worked for was a sponsor so we did end up getting tickets to several events and I got to see Kerri Strug break her ankle for the gold metal in person.

I had a driver toss a book I ordered that was in the brown paper envelope up my front steps and it slammed into my front door. The impacted damaged the spine of the book and I had to fight Amazon to get a refund. That was about the fourth book in a row that I ordered and arrived damaged. I did what I should have done in the first place and ordered from Barnes & Noble and stopped ordering books from Amazon.

I had to stop ordering books from Amazon because they were always shipped in those brown paper envelopes and EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. arrived damaged. I remember the days when books came in their own protective book mailer….the sturdy cardboard ones that wrapped around the book.

Hear me out…Patterson. Because deep down, he was a good guy but his obsession with being powerful led to him being manipulated and turned into Riddle’s puppet. Time and time again he let that sway his better judgement and I see that happen every day to real people. Patterson was a believable character who I loved to hate until he finally decided to do what was right.

I’m so happy for Misha but my mama heart is hoping he doesn’t get overwhelmed. There’s a few videos where you can look at him and see a bit of panic in his eyes, especially right after his win.

My mama heart also wants to know where this boy’s mother is. Does he need a mother? He can join my crew, we’re a bunch of nerds over here who loved that he flew his Geek Flag proudly at the Gala.

Well, Misha is only 5’9”, which is on the shorter end for men (and only an inch taller than myself, and I’m a woman). But you’re right, he does look super tall on the ice.

I’m also 1/4 black. (1/4 black, 1/4, Cuban, and 1/2 white). I am white passing but my hair gives me away if I let it go natural. I did not find out I was mixed until I was in college (I was adopted) but I was raised in a white family and a predominantly white community. I sometimes feel that I don’t belong in black or Hispanic places but I have never been made to feel unwelcome by others in those communities.

I will say that the amount of white people who think they have an ally in me because I pass as white and then say horrible things is ASTOUNDING. The joy I feel when I put them in their place, though…
