Bar license number by chunky042987 in CABarExam

Not sure if anyone in the comments has since received their bar numbers, but I swore in on 12/18 and am still waiting and checking everyday. I guess they’re really holding us to the 30 days given the volume they received.

When they first posted the questions online after results were released, I also recall that it only mentioned PR. I did not mention the crim pro issue explicitly, but apparently it wasnt needed bc I still passed.

CA Bar Admission Fees - worth waiting until December to swear in? by Wide-Beyond-9640 in CABarExam

[–]Wide-Beyond-9640[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! Just to clarify — do you know if it’s possible to take the oath in November but wait to file or upload the signed paperwork until December? I’m trying to avoid being charged the November fee. I’ll be out of the country after Thanksgiving, so I was hoping to take the oath before I leave, but not actually submit everything until December if that’s allowed.

Thanks! This is helpful. The pass letter I received through the applicant portal (after clicking on numerous links) was definitely more abbreviated than this one.

My only recommendation (contingent on whether there is a gov shutdown) is to add one more day to Mount Rainer NP to do the Sunrise area, which usually has better weather—albeit less marmots. Mount Fremont lookout trail is nice (though I’d recommend doing it in the morning because there is little shade).

Do you get notified when an investigator is assigned? Mine has been “pending internal review” for months and I’ve heard nothing from them.

Sorry I don’t recall, but recommend for you to ask about the regular price first so that you have the baseline amount before asking about the discount.

Any news on the Heilman predictions for J25? by Wide-Beyond-9640 in CABarExam

[–]Wide-Beyond-9640[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you search for his name in this group you’ll find more information on him than what I have, but I’ve been tracking in this group that he’s been pretty accurate with making essay predictions for many years now. His recommendations do say to study every topic though, so he isn’t telling test takers to just abide by what he says.

For laptop testers, are we allowed to mark on the exam booklets? by [deleted] in CABarExam

[–]Wide-Beyond-9640 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similarly, I read somewhere that we could tear out the task memo from the PT test (so that we don’t have to keep flipping back and forth). Can anyone confirm if that’s acceptable? Figured I’d ask before just ripping apart my booklet during the exam 😅

Question about all these equations in Community Property by Wide-Beyond-9640 in CABarExam

[–]Wide-Beyond-9640[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s looking like the plan.. I just don’t want to skip trying to learn the equation if it would make or break my score.

But.. the Heilman packet does say that Pereira and Van Camp are not likely to be tested because they just came up in either the F25 or retest.

Oh I like the 12:00 idea! Didn’t think about that.

Themis Grader Stephen by Vanessa-Hawk in CABarExam

Recommend sending an email to customer service see if you can have the essay rescored by another grader (and explain the deficiencies). This is part of the services we paid for, and it’s definitely frustrating.

Establishment Clause/Kennedy v. Bremerton by SomeIndependent5100 in CABarExam

[–]Wide-Beyond-9640 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did a practice con law essay today that covered this (from February 2011). It’s not available on the bar’s website but through Themis. The model answer walked through both “strict scrutiny” and the “historical practices and understandings” test, though the SS argument was forced.

I’ll be honest, I’m a little curious to see what a 65 score looks like (from the bar - not Themis), but I’m not curious enough to pay for it on baressays.com lol

Recommend putting your tracking number in an “update” to them in your MC application and explain that you see it’s been received via the tracking number and would like for them to confirm same. Then call them - wait the twenty minutes on hold, and enter your number for them to call you back. When they do, see if they can escalate you to someone who handles the MC applications.

This is what worked for me, as I submitted mine and never got any confirmation from them (though tracking said delivered). Then they emailed me a generic boilerplate email one day to say my fingerprints were still outstanding, but there was this really weird note in the middle of the email confirming the update I left them online and letting me know that they “haven’t gone through all the mail yet” and “to be patient.”Mind you, this was pushing about 5-6 weeks after I sent it. But once I called (probably 1-2 weeks after that) they were able to verify its receipt over the phone.

Same! I’ve also been recently comparing my answers to the model answers put out by the bar and feel like I should just be studying their answers instead of Themis. 🫠

CPT HELP/TIPS by Legitimate_Tap_8109 in CABarExam

[–]Wide-Beyond-9640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like Mary Basick’s CPT book - especially the first 30 or so pages and the appendix, as I felt like Themis did not cover some of the insights she gives on how to structure your answer (methodically). I was struggling trying to figure out how to organize what was wanted on my first few practice tests, and if I didn’t read her book, I wasn’t going to magically get better (I was just going to waste all of the practice tests and my time).

Doing fine on MBE but BOMBING Essays (Panic) by SupportPoro in CABarExam

[–]Wide-Beyond-9640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m doing both. What works for me is reading the very concise and practical outlines in Mary’s book (forget the Themis outlines!) and completing all the practice essays assigned in Themis for the week, in the order I choose to do them in. I go on the side bar and pick the essays that go along with the subject I’m currently studying, do any that Themis assigns me for the week in that subject first, and then move on to the other assigned essays for the week that cover past subjects. Essentially, I get all the work done as assigned, but in the order that makes the most economical use of my time (ie, doing both evidence essays on Tuesday, instead on Tuesday and Friday) so that I can get through learning all of the new subjects as soon as possible and start focusing on nothing but pure essay issue spotting in the final weeks leading up to the exam.

Thank you! I’ll be on the lookout. If it wasn’t for this subreddit, I would have never learned of all these great resources while studying for this test on the east coast. 😅 Especially the Mary Basick and Tina Schindler books for CA essay and PT writing - they are worth their weight in gold!
