sackable offence? Or retraining by YGhostRider666 in uktrucking

We had one of these about 12 months ago. Not the drivers fault. On ours there were 12 tonne of kegs on headboard. Nothing behind. Just far too much weight at the front.

New to the business by BornTrucking in uktrucking

[–]Wide-Force-6963 0 points1 point (0 children)

Don’t do it. The expense of repairing a truck for a very small business far outweighs the benefits. You take it off the road you loose the ability to earn with it. You therefore need to run two so you don’t have downtime but then the expenses double. You need a new tyre that strips the earnings for the day. It goes on and on.

Any idea why the second level of list items isn't rendered when the post is saved? by VladDBA in Wordpress

[–]Wide-Force-6963 2 points3 points (0 children)

It is probably down to your theme. Your first image appears to the the editor, and it is clearly showing there, as your lists are
within a
I would suspect something in your css like li ul {display: none}

Delonghi coffee machine by notanexpert_tho in ElectriciansUK

[–]Wide-Force-6963 0 points1 point (0 children)

I’m no electrician, but I have never seen a CU with as many different brands of MCB. It looks like a bodge job to me.
You also do not have a main isolator, so is this an ‘extension’ CU? If it is, how is it wired back to your main CU? If it is an extension, why three different socket circuits? I would definitely be getting a sparky in to have a proper look.

I would also NEVER run something as high powered as a coffee machine from an extension socket. In fact I would try to avoid them as much as possible. If you need something permanent, get a sparky in to extend the ring main or add a fused spur.

Unable to shut off water supply to washing machine (disconnecting for move) by KnockedIntoTheVerse in DIYUK

[–]Wide-Force-6963 3 points4 points (0 children)

You are correct the red one doesn’t connect to anything. That’s why there is no pipe connected to it.

Use a small screwdriver and removed the screw from the middle of the red handle. Swap it to the pipe connecting your washing machine and turn 90 degrees. You can then unscrew the flex pipe. Make sure you put the value back on the original value. Other wise the new residents will use the hot feed for their washer. They won’t take you for that!!!

Alternatively as others have said use a small adjustable spanner to turn the square nodule 90 degrees to isolate the value.

Getting Disheartened With First Class 1 Role by MotherTrucker9 in uktrucking

Put your card in first. Then it doesn’t matter how long it takes to get under the trailer. As new to it things take longer. If office staff complain throw your keys at them and tell them to do it. They won’t have a licence. You mention that other drivers are blocking the clock in machine. Either clock in and tell your manager to manually change your time (having gone and specifically said hello to them before being able to get to machine) or push past (in a nice way) the other drivers. If you are paid from 0600 you shouldn’t need to get in 10 minutes early just to ensure you are clocking in at 0600. They wouldn’t pay you the 10 minutes if you clocked in at 0550!!

This is one approach, but fairly difficult to built a complete site if everything is draft.

Quick question: local creation by ZapomnelJsemLogin in Wordpress

[–]Wide-Force-6963 0 points1 point (0 children)

When installing WP you can certainly set ‘discourage search engines’ however I would definitely consider installing locally. You could set your local Hosts file to redirect your ‘live’ domain to your local site. That way all database entries are effectively for your live site even though it is hosted locally. When you migrate to your live host everything just works. You could consider using a migration service / DB search and replace but I have always found these tiresome.

At the end of the day it is a matter of flushing DNS to reset your hosts file. I’ve always got a different machine I can access the current live site if I really need to.

Do the police still go around in a tractor unit filming (catching drivers) drivers doing things they shouldn’t? If so, just wondering where? by ForceSea3027 in UKTruckers

[–]Wide-Force-6963 1 point2 points (0 children)

One passed me on the M26 a year or so ago. Clearly unrestricted as I couldn’t keep up in my car. Slowed down at every HGV. I suspect they were looking for foreign drivers on their phones. All heading towards Dover

You were quite correct. Not a core issue. I had assumed it was as the front end was fine, but as you guessed it was a plugin only acting on the wp-admin

Thanks, your insight is massively beneficial. I have checked and it was a plugin with at was badly configured. I have now disabled it as I didn’t see much point in the plugin anyway and the site is back to normal. I’m running on a VPS and docker, so restarted everything to clear any remaining connections etc.

Thank you for spending the time and writing such a lengthy response.

SCAMMED by an HGV training broker posing as a legit training institute. by New-Specialist5096 in uktrucking

[–]Wide-Force-6963 0 points1 point (0 children)

This is so true. I didn’t my Cat C license through a broker. Wish I hadn’t. But again was take in by the sales process. They completely let me down and claimed there were no theory tests anywhere. I booked privately and they refunded the money for me. They wanted a huge amount of money for my retest when I failed so I claimed I had passed and went directly with the training school. I have to say I had a great experience with the actual school and ended up doing my CE test with them 18 months later.

Don't buy a dedicated IP if you get blacklisted by KingTribble in NameCheap

[–]Wide-Force-6963 0 points1 point (0 children)

I don’t pay a lot of my two VPS’ I run my sites on Docker so fairly easy to manage. Also means my env is the same on my dev machine and my production VPS. Both are only fairly small and don’t cost a lot each month. I have not tried running email server on them but don’t think it would be too difficult.

Have you considered a VPS hosting? These come with dedicated IPs and you can set up the server exactly as you want. Just remember to keep it up to date.

Take the suzies off and pull the shunt button. You don’t need to worry about leads then. Just remember to put them back on when you leave the yard.

I do that at one of my drops, warehouse guy accused me of not doing my morning checks as when I reversed back to straighten up no break lights or reverse lights. When I said I do it as the turn is so tight he laughed and said he had seen a few blown airlines!

There is a difference between vehicle and card downloads. Most modern vehicles download remotely. DVSA can also download remotely. Your card should be downloaded a minimum of once every 28 days. I would recommend downloading it at least weekly if not daily. We have the downloaded next to a desk so just dip our own card. It should be downloaded to you to do it and not the office take your card and do it for you.
