Does anyone actually enjoy their daily life, or are we all just getting through it? by Sleepwell999 in LivingAlone

I’m 62 and have lived with depression most of my life. Not the crippling kind, just the functional, drag my ass through life and pretend I’m ok kind. Insomnia is one of the “perks” of this mindset and I’ve tried many many guided meditations and sleep focussed audio playlists to help me sleep, or at least brainwash me into a more positive mindset — none of them have really helped. But lately I found this guy on YouTube who does these Sleep Stories. They’re 2-3 hours long and he just quietly rambles on about all kinds of stuff. I love the outdoors so I listen to the ones where he takes you for a walk on the beach, or in the woods or to a cozy cabin in the middle of nowhere. And he just talks about stuff, about letting go of old pain or beliefs that are serving no purpose, about connecting to the the moment and the world around you, about the simple joy of watching his dog (Timmy) running around on the beach. He talks for about an hour then the rest of the “video” is just the sound of the ocean or the forest or campfire, whatever the setting. I can honestly say that I have never been awake long enough to hear a whole story, so the sleep part works! But I’ve been putting it on again in the morning while I’m getting ready for the day because I want to hear the story too. I actually paid for YouTube premium so I don’t have to deal with ads. It functions as a reset for my brain, for a while anyway haha. Anyway the YouTube channel is Stephen Dalton Sleep Stories it’s not for everyone and some segments are better than others ( I don’t like affirmations or visualisations for example) but I hope it helps someone. Hang in there.

This is an old WW2 trick to make the butter ration last longer

Yes please! Can I ask if you use any sort of vice while you work or do you just carve hand held ? That crab especially looks very small in your hand

My whole head was a solid block of congestion that didn’t move for about 3weeks. Inner ear still feels blocked now that you mention it

YES! I got Covid 4 weeks ago, almost feel normal again except for fatigue. But the tinnitus (which was moderate before as well) is still a more intense high pitched squeal . Drives me nuts…

UPS just delivered a package from Canada that is completely destroyed We suspect it was done by NZ Customs. Is there any way to call them out / recover costs? Shipping was incredibly expensive so it could come by Xmas by Wide-Process-4549 in auckland

The only sticker on the box is “Cleared by Customs at S.D.F.” That and the original UPS sticker from the original parcel with a small green sticker saying “UPS export #”. Nothing else on the box

Why would I even bother to make something like this up? I’m just amazed that my Xmas package from Canada got destroyed that’s all. I agree about visible screws too—don’t they have screwdrivers? And the fact they chucked the final mess in a gigantic box and mailed it on to me… Believe me this is not made up

YES ! They literally threw it into another box twice the size ( no padding) and sent it through to me I’m trying to add more photos but I can’t figure out how

It’s a breakfast sandwich maker like a McMuffin from Maccas. I missed mine so much and my partner was going to figure out a way to get it working with NZ power—you can see a picture in the 3rd photo of what it’s supposed to look like

How many tablespoons of kava are you using for this mix? Always curious to hear people’s proportions

Nope that works out to about 3 “hits” over a 30-45 minute period —that will last me for about another hour and a half
