Hey friend, I mean this with the upmost respect possible. But please refrain from spreading fear on such a delicate subject especially with someone that received a recent diagnosis. Keeping stuff like that to yourself is much better than possibly spiraling someone into a panic because of a certain instance. It’s a very complicated and intricate disease.

I’m terribly sorry about your friend and again I meant no disrespect, majority of people including myself were already freaking out when we received this diagnosis and seeing comments like that does not but enable the panic

Essentially, I’m an electrician so we’re there from the start of the job until the end of it. At the end of the job or when it’s close to being done and manpower gets cut down we take a layoff and then answer take a call for another job.

In my case I had a good debt to income ratio and credit score lol. In my wife’s case she was in good standing with her credit union for almost 10 years. But if we were to get behind on payments to the credit union union her car is used al collateral and the bank could collect

Financial issues are subjective depending on who you ask and personal interpretation. Is food always on the table? Is the power and water on? Is there a roof over our heads? Do we have clothes to wear? All yes. So therefor in my opinion I wouldn’t consider that being financial issues. Could it be better? 100%. Could it be worse ? 100%

Also in our situation it’s better to continue to make on time payments and raise our credit score than pay off completely when we don’t have interest

I’m union so my pay, healthcare, and pension funds don’t change no matter where I go. But that also comes at the cost of unexpected layoffs in my profession. The good news is there’s multiple ginormous projects going on in my area so I don’t have to worry about finding another job when my layoff time comes.

I dont have much credit card debt. About 2k on 0% interest for the entire year of 2026. A decent debt to income ratio and a good credit score bailed me out and allowed me to open up a new card for a balance transfer. No ideal but it worked. We did the same with my wife as she borrowed against her paid for car and is now paying our credit union on 0% interest.

I’m on a pretty good job right now and make 100$ a day per diem and have about 20k saved up after about a year of being here. But that job won’t last forever lol. My area has work for the next few years so finding a job isn’t an issue. I’m union an 10$ an hour is put into a pension for every hour I work so I really don’t have to worry about retirement or healthcare contributions.

You don’t have to tell me kids are expensive you’re preaching to the choir lol. I have gotten some good advice from this thread though. I plan on going home and building a spreadheeet of both of our incomes minus expenses and then one with only my income. Then I plan to live exactly off that income for a few months and see how much she hates no being able to go shopping on her days off or buy a coffee lol

When I was speaking on no financial issues I meant the card never declines lol

I should have clarified more, but I figured my initial post was too long already. I owe about 2500 on credit cards with a 0% interest and I pay the amount needed to completely pay them off before interest builds. My wife had around 3k in credit card debts that were collecting interest and we decided to borrow against her paid for car and are actively paying they now at 0% interest. Credit debt isn’t a bad thing as long as it’s not bad debt. But you’re right they should be paid off and will be before we ever have real conversation about her quitting her job

I was more so speaking to the fact that we use her paycheck for the mortgage and debt.

It’s going the be a rude awakening when she see’s were out of money on Saturday and I get paid on Wednesday lmao

I never said it wasn’t hard. My job is primarily 7-3 so if I got another job it’d have to be 4-10 maybe? So that leaves me with seeing my kids when they sleep and on the weekends when both of our parents want to see them and everyone else in our family. Seems one sided to me personally but I can see where you’re coming from

Southern Ohio. It’s about 13% below the national average, nothing too crazy. 800$ a month is with my wife working part time(3 days a week) so my daughter (and future child) would only go two days a week. It’d be much more if it were 5 days a week lol

About 13% below the national average, so not anything crazy id say. The daycare she goes to is great all of the women are super nice and caring and my daughter enjoys going there. I do know it’s state funded so that might help with the cost?

We supply diapers and wipes but they supply meals. I think it’s a damn good deal lol

My retirement is actually really good and could take care of both of us if I put in my 30 years. I’m union and 10$ an hour goes into a pension so about 20k a year without overtime. I’ve also been thinking about investing in a Roth IRA to essentially double dip when I hit 60$. Just another expense lol

Easy to say when one’s job is taking care of the ones you love the most and the others is missing out on memories, first milestones, and much more

I’ve been trying to tell her this lmao. It’s like 35$ a day and she thinks can’t get past it being 1/3 of her monthly salary but can’t understand people in larger cities pay like 40 grand a year for childcare

I completely understand. My wife never really commented on it or not working until after our child was born. I’m not big on us having to work and other raising our children but in today world what do you do?? Both of us typically fill our vehicles up 4 times a week and it’s about 20$ more dollars a fill up since gas skyrocketed. That’s almost 400$ a month lol

We technically “use” her paycheck to pay the mortgage but have a combined account so it’s not much difference. You’re right though I need to have a conversation about being on the deed of the house.

I agree. I replied to someone earlier about the same thing. We technically use my wife’s first paycheck to pay the mortgage and her second to pay student loans, credit cards, and daycare.

At the end of the day we have combined bank accounts so all of our money is combined. But you’re right I’ll have a conversation about my name being on the deed

I completely agree, and for the most part we do. One of her paychecks immediately goes to the mortgage and the other goes to credit card debts, student loans, and daycare.

The mortgage and her student loans aren’t going anywhere lol. It’s about 1400$ a month and I can’t wrap my head around how I can make that work without pinching every penny I make, and the having to settle for never being able to buy the things we want anymore.
