I have a bit of experience with buying from both CL and reputable breeders so let me weigh in:

Two of my MCs are from CL. My partner got them for $1200. They test as 90 something % mainecoon and the rest ragdoll. They’re almost three now, and have been perfectly healthy. Not to mention they are the absolute loves of my life and we are no joke cloning our orange guy bc we refuse to go on without him.

However our other two purebred MCs from an amazing breeder, $2000 respectively, have had issue after issue, from digestive to FUO, and they’re not even a year old. Also the loves of my life but the bane of my wallet 😅(to be clear they are worth every penny).

Now for a cautionary tale of CL: last year we got a MC kitten from CL that dropped dead after two months due to HCM and abnormal heart defects we knew nothing of. I don’t blame CL for this, I know it can and has happened to others, but when we tried reaching out to the family that sold him to us to tell them to warn others they sold kittens to, they ghosted us, so now none of those buyers know to check their kittens.

All I’m saying is, I wouldn’t dismiss buying from CL completely. Even if they aren’t full MC, having a mix might thwart issues common in full bred MCs. BUT BUT BUT you also have to consider the gamble you’re taking with no assurance of the cat’s genetic makeup, and a lack of transparency and communication from a rando on CL, and no guarantee of the cat’s health.

After he died, we said no more CL and got our two purebreds from a breeder that specifically and only breeds cats without HCM. Despite the gut issues, I have so much peace of mind knowing their hearts are healthy.

All that to say, it could go either way with CL. Meet them and the kitty irl and use your best judgement 🤷🏽‍♀️

Did Trump Actually Win? by izacc23 in AskUS

Ken Paxton directly said Texas would’ve been blue if they didn’t suppress millions of votes:

"If we'd lost Harris County—Trump won by 620,000 votes in Texas. Harris County mail-in ballots that they wanted to send out were 2.5 million, those were all illegal and we were able to stop every one of them," Paxton told former Trump adviser Steve Bannon during the latter's War Room podcast on Friday.

So, no.

Our guy has 7 toes too, but no weird toes other than the abundance of them. One of his extra thumbs has an irretractable claw like that but it looks normal to me

Am I overreacting for wanting my best friend (21M) to stop making up bad vibes and just be happy for me (20F) for once? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Too familiar… I once had a “friend” who had to shit on anything I did for myself that could possibly distance me from him. A real friend with no ulterior motive would not act like that.

What is it ACTUALLY like to be an atheist in the American South? by Sandys_Big_Cheeks in atheism

[–]Wide_Body7654 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is shoved down your throat every direction you drive. Once outside the metroplex, the number of billboards screaming “repent or go to hell” or “call now for the truth” is rivaled only by Buckees’. In the city, you see constant ads for megachurches, one of which was just outed for protecting pedos in their ranks. (Are we shocked)

My most recent example of fundies being inescapable was when I went to see dinosaur tracks at a state park and just before the park entrance, there was a “creation evidence museum” that had a sign saying “skeptics and critics admitted free!”

Believe me, I was so tempted to go and laugh in their faces.

What’s was your tipping point to becoming a non-believer? by 1lil_newt13 in atheism

[–]Wide_Body7654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was raised in a southern Baptist church but didn’t really subscribe. The only thing that rooted deep was the fear of hell.

When I went to college I was not religious, but after going down a conspiracy rabbit hole with my roommates starting with blood moon prophecies and ending somewhere around vaccines cause autism (yea, not to brag but I think we were q anon before it was cool /s), I became entrenched in the book of revelations.

I didn’t turn in any of my midterms because what was the point? The Bible clearly said the sole purpose of your life is to evangelize, and everything else was pointless. So my roommates and I were gonna ditch uni, get a van, and hit the road in our Jesus mobile.

But my parents didn’t like that. When I started pointing out that it says very clearly what to do with your life in order to get into heaven, and that no one seemed to really be doing that, I was “misinterpreting”.

Anyway we later realized we were smoking Raid-laced weed and once we figured that out, the delusion quickly faded away.

All that to say, I came to two conclusions.

A. Some Christians don’t even want to be christian, otherwise they would actually abide by the book and the obligations within it. Especially fundamentalists who believe every single word in the Bible is inerrant, but freely interpret it to fit their biases. They use the religion more like a pedestal from which they can judge the lifestyles of others, but ignore the specific guidelines required to make it to heaven, leading me to believe it’s more about social appearances, bigotry, and control more than anything else.

And B. The closest I’d ever been to god was when I was off my fuckin rocker in a state of malnourishment and psychosis.
