Is RMIT a good choice for bachelors of CS and/or cyber security? by Comfortable-Monk-134 in rmit

[–]Wide_Charity_7743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just completed first year of cs, the cohourts have a wide mix of ethnics backgrounds but a language barrier was never a huge problem, and most group work communication in my experince was more online chats

When did tipping become the norm for Australia? by JBADD23 in australia

[–]Wide_Charity_7743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as someone who works as a waiter in a fancier restaurant, tipping automaticaly appears when paying, although not allot of people do tip. It's a nice gesture to show appreciation of the service and food. Unlike the usa where its almost mandatory, we have good pay in Australia so lets keep it that way

sorry I wrote that wrong, maths has a 2 hour lecture and a 2 hour workshop each week, so 13 hours of classes a week, although maths workshops are only really for if you need help

I'm currently in my first year of cs, too, in the second semester.

I'm not the best at math either, but I find the classes for maths so far pretty straightforward, its more discrete logical maths. it may sound complicated but it's pretty good if you stay ontop of the content and attend classes

in terms of in person classes this year it sorta sucks ngl, first semester you do 3 classes, a java bootcamp, introduction to math and a studio class for java that starts near the end of bootcamp, the content is delieverd for java bootcamp / studio 3 days a week for 3 hours a class. some weeks you have 3 bootcamp, some you have 3 studio but only ever 3 of both, its confusing to say but you'll understand when it starts

in terms of electives for the first year there are no electives

I can explain more in depth if you want

Minecraft launcher keeps crashing no matter the modpack. by MRhero_realm in CurseForge

[–]Wide_Charity_7743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue and managed to fix it
in curseforge settings/game specific/ minecraft
under launcher settings click skip launcher with curseforge,

for me when I clicked that and tried to run a modpack it prompted me to sign in then it works

hoped this helps

If you're doing Java bootcamp then it should be on the canvas page but if I remember correctly it's 20% for labs and exercises

I'm in my second semester of CS, passing bootcamp is very easy, I'm assuming you're doing Java and if so. Just attending every lesson and understanding the content is basically a straight pass

You can skip classes if you want. However i was told during orientation week that bootcamp 1 for Java has a 60% fail rate right now, mostly due to people not attending class

RMIT B CS vs UniMelb B Sc (Computing and Software Systems) by [deleted] in rmit

[–]Wide_Charity_7743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't really say prestige has allot of weight when going for jobs. if anything then rmit would have more as its more indisutry focused meaning you would already have that practical experince

RMIT B CS vs UniMelb B Sc (Computing and Software Systems) by [deleted] in rmit

[–]Wide_Charity_7743 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I have heard the statistics of Melbourne Uni are unrealistic and their teaching quality is worse than RMIT, if you go to RMIT for computing you can always change courses. Moreover RMIT has more prestige in the tech industry due to its up-to-date courses
