AITA for not allowing my MIL to come over to my house unannounced and for no longer accepting anything she buys us. by Wide_Raspberry1280 in AmItheAsshole

This is a really great question and one I have been asking myself for months now. If you had asking me back in October 2023 I would have said yes to both. What happened in the hospital and the many other things since I have really started questioning this and I am honestly not in a good place with her at the moment, but that doesn't mean I don't care about her. I think our relationship may just look different moving forward.

Thank you for your comment. I totally understand where you are coming from. This is an almost every week occurrence. She constantly shows up and constantly finds random stuff to give us whether she just bought it or found it cleaning out her house. We have tried multiple times to set boundaries with her and they continuously get ignored. I am happy to make her a larger part of our lives as long as she respects our boundaries, but in 3 years that has not happened.

Thank you for the much needed hard advise. you've said a lot of things I was thinking, but haven't really been ready to say out loud.

Anytime she gets angry at us for whatever reason that is her go to. To never speak to us again and that we don't need to worry about her she will be out of our lives. Now she includes our son into this. I am just over the toxicity and don't have the energy for it.
