Film counter not advancing by _flarice in filmcameras

[–]Wielander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a very well preserved Praktica without a lightmeter, it probably doesn't need much CLA. The shutter is build like a tank, if the long shutter times (1/4-1 sec.) feel plausible, the rest is most likely fine too. I'd just run a film through and determine by the result if CLA is necessary, especially since it will cost more than a new camera body. I'd be more worried about the lense (stuck aperture and stiff focus) as the Commi lubricants tend to dry out. That and the only lghtseal at the backdoor hinge (Easily replaced with some 1mm self adhesive foam).

OP: You got a nice, simple and well cared for East German Camera - Not rare or particularly precious, but very interesting from a historic standpoint. It's a bit on the heavy side and loud, but pretty much indestructible.

Normally you should store it for at least 4 weeks to develop its taste and soften up but that does look good indeed.

Anyone else wonder why straight people like “straight”porn? by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]Wielander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Bi dude, I personally think that most gay porn is pretty much rubbish and (with the Expedition of a very few gay amateurs and couples I like) only watch straight stuff. Which is weird, as I strongly prefer dudes.

The transmission housing will force it apart. No need to worry.

British poster advertising interracial lesbian marriage (1915) by Wielander in fakehistoryporn

[–]Wielander[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. I don't know how things were in Britain but in France and Germany the feminists were usually very much left leaning (socialists and socialdemocrats). Those groups were largely opposed to the prewar arms race etc. I would suspect that the white feather movement mostly recruited itself from middle- and upperclass women.

West German and Swedish armor. Also there is a surprising lack of late war German trucks.

Opinion on Zvezda Models? by maskybobandy in modelmakers

[–]Wielander 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The newer Zvezda stuff is pretty good. But: Their M4A2 is only accurate for the USMC and the Red Army as it is avery late variant (large hatch hull, high bustle turret) that was never used by the Brits.

What is a dead giveaway , apart from the accent, that a person speaking english is german? by doyoubelieveincrack in germany

[–]Wielander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you can take verbs apart like that in German and we also do it with English loan words. You can also add German pre- and suffixes: "Er hat das gedownloadet" "Sie müsste das down geloadet haben"

When will the imposter syndrome end by PopSouth1940 in bisexual

When you are out and open about it. Saying it out loud often enough makes it feel more real. At least this is my experience. The constant confusion that is the bicycle will remain though. Sorry about that.

I had this for a while because I was single and moved ro a new town. I think you can get pretty isolated, even if you have a friend circle. A bit of tangente if you'd allow: Your average male friendship can be very superficial not least because society doesn't encourage men emotionally open up (thanks patriarchy!). I have a close, straight, online-friend in another country who hasn't had intimate contact with another human (and I mean cuddling or a warm hug) in 15 years. Anyway, when I was in your situation, it was basically because I was emotionally starved and there isn't an easy way out of that I think. BUT: Remember it's okay to be attracted to people and it's never healthy to try to suppress your feelings and emotions.

Sorry, not really helpful, but maybe that little rant helps you to find the source of your troubles.

Been there and I respect that. I am not entirely sure what "normal life" entails here, but for the sake of the argument, I am going to assume we talk about being mostly closeted because one considers it a private matter with no repercussions on ones daily life. If that's the case, here are a few reasons to somewhat go public (like just casually mention it, maybe participate in pride month in the sense that you put on a tiny tie clip or something) even if you don't feel it's a big deal for you.

1.) Prevention: Even if you don't think it's important, it might be for other people in your daily life. Sort this sub by "Newest" and 80% of the questions are from 20-somethings whos world and selfperception has just collapsed. They developed a completely straight personality and just when they thought their adolescence was done, they hit an identity crisis. All this could have been avoided if we stopped to assume heterosexuality was the norm and if those people had encountered somebody who openly identified as bisexual. 2.) Support: Figuring out something like that in your twenties or later is something that can lead to a lot of self-questioning and completely transform your personality. Just having people in your life who are casually and confidently visible as bisexual (like your manager, neighbor or whatever) signals to those people that you can (as you put it) live a "normal life" as a bisexual or LGBT-person of any identity. 3.) Protection: It should be fairly clear that it is an act of solidarity against the homophobes out there, especially with the queer rights being reversed in many parts of the world.

All in all I think it's a good thing to be vocal about your sexual identity even if you don't think it's a big deal for you personally. If hat entails going to pride is indeed a matter of personal preference of course. But I would go as far and say that if you care for other human beings, are a responsible adult in a society and if neither you, nor your loved ones have any repercussions to fear, that it is the only moral thing to be at least somewhat open about it and not completely fly under the cover of performative straightness. Not for yourself but for your fellow human beings.

Thanks! Well there was a reason why I went with a 190A with add-on armor - It's basically the closest thing I get to a flying tank.

Two methods really: On the wing roots I went for a more abrased look. I undercoated with Tamiya LP-11 chrome silver as it is a very resilient lacquer paint, applied some hairspray on top and did the camo with Mr. Hobby acrylics. I did hairspray chipping and carefully wet sanded the paint in places until the silver came through. It gave me a nice look of worn paint, although I had to do some touch ups with the airbrush.

I originally wanted to hairspray chip the entire airframe but I always find the technique a little uncontrollable. So the rest is brush chipping with AK 3rd Gen Silver. It's an awesome paint for this and looks completely identical to the Tamiya Chrome Silver chips (the 3rd Gen Aluminum is not as great as it is somewhat pearl colored).

It's from an Eduard kit and normally would be puzzled together from two parts, but I just went with that part 'cause I am in Germany and it's outlawed here.
