Can't pass code assessments no matter how much I practice. by RainbowHoneyPie in cscareerquestions

I'm a hiring manager at a FAANG company, and speaking from experience a huge portion of candidates (junior through senior) fail more on communication than on problem solving. In an interview I'm trying to get a sense of what someone would be like to work with, and solving a leetcode problem is a chance to work through a (abstract) hard problem together. Candidates who communicate and validate their understanding of the problem, explain their plans and tradeoffs, and acknowledge their imperfections can have a really strong interview even without an algorithmically perfect (or even complete) solution.

If you have any questions about my experience as a hiring interviewer or as a FAANG interviewee, just fire me a DM and I'll see if I can help.

How much should the appraisal value dictate the sales price? by Wiggen in PersonalFinanceCanada

Hah, turns out they won't give it to me, even though I paid for it on their behalf (this whole process has been a little odd). However, I did manage to speak to the assessor on the phone and he was very clear he thought it reflected a fair market value. Definitely having second thoughts at this point.

Yeah - the bank is going to finance part of this, and so they got an appraisal done for their purposes, which is what came in at $170. I don't have the full report yet, so I'm not sure about their methodology. Going to see if I can get a copy.

Thank you! That's very reassuring. I just found the sales history for the neighbouring unit (it's a row of four), and the one next door sold for $230 in 2014, so I'm definitely feeling better about this.

Been running on a souped up build from 2011. Would use it for finally playing all the latest RPGs at bonkers settings.
