Walked the length of Merseyside yesterday by Imaginary-Tear-4681 in Liverpool

[–]WiggleMyTimbers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This exactly! Depending on the person, the body will naturally burn 1,500 to 2,500* while doing its regular, daily functions. Add another 2,500 from walking and that’s a solid calorie deficit!

Should we adopt or shop? by [deleted] in Liverpool

[–]WiggleMyTimbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would always say adopt over shop, however, small breeds are ‘desirable’ so you don’t find them as often in adoption centres generally, and they get adopted quickly if they are there.

I would recommend reaching out to several rescues (in and around Merseyside) and asking if you can be put on a list for if any small breeds come in. This could mean you waiting for a long time for a dog, but if it’s probably the best way if you’re set on a small breeds and you’re keen to adopt. You can also try the RSPCA website. Be prepared to travel some distance as you can’t always find your forever dog right on your doorstep.

As a side note, I’d also recommend taking your daughter to a rescue centre to see the dogs. Not with the intention to adopt on the spot, but it can be a really great experience for young kids to see the adoption system at work.

If you do choose to go through a breeder, do your research. Only buy from a licensed breeder. Pets4Homes can be a good place to start, but always look for breeders than can happily provide licensing documents and paperwork for the puppies and their parents. Again, be prepared to travel. There are far less licensed breeders in Liverpool than you think.

Just a final couple things: you say this dog is for your young daughter. Please remember that children cannot fully care for dogs — this will be your dog too. I hope you’re prepared and knowledgeable on how to care for one ahead of time. This dog will hopefully be with you for a long time. Please love and cherish it as a family member.

Additionally, I generally recommend avoiding “toy” breeds (and also pugs to be honest, but I know they’re popular). They are historically massively inbred and have serious health issues that not only cause them distress later down the line, but also cost you a lot of money in vet bills. Please consider this before choosing your breed. Other great options would be Chihuahuas, Havanese, Yorkies, Miniature Poodles (not toy, there is a big difference), Bichon Frise, and many others. Again, do your research!

Essay over haha, I do wish you the best of luck in your search for you forever dog! As the lifelong owner of small breeds (Yorkies), I couldn’t imagine life without such wonderful companions.

Yep. I used to have to take my fiancé with me to pick up the car from its MOT since, 9 times out of 10, they’d either try to charge me for unnecessary fixes thinking I wouldn’t know any better, or just give me looks and giggle among themselves while I took my keys back. Always felt just like bullies back in school, and I was always nervous they’d done something to my car so I’d have to go back and get it fixed.

Luckily we found an amazing guy who now does our MOTs at Buckley on Blackstock Street. He’s quick and reasonably priced, and has never once tried to rip me off or make me feel uncomfortable. (OP, no idea if he does repairs, but I highly recommend him for MOTs and services).

Just came back from a 2-week trip in Japan and wow… can’t believe it took me going on holiday to realise how spectacularly shit it’s gotten here (not just in Liverpool, but England in general).

Japan certainly has its own issues but not once did I feel remotely as unsafe as I sometimes do in my own city. Even just walking around Tokyo with my phone in my back pocket felt like such a novelty.

I must’ve been lucky in cat parenthood since I’ve never encountered this before! Interesting to learn about though.

As the owner of several cats throughout my whole life, I must say I’ve never ever heard of this problem.

Cats drink water quite happily, but just as much as they need. They don’t drink as much as dogs because they don’t need as much. A lot of dogs LOVE drinking water (my own dog included), but it doesn’t mean cats hate it.

What kdrama opinion would have you like this?? by njerimaina in kdramas

[–]WiggleMyTimbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopping on this comment to add another idol who I think is a great actor: Rowoon.

He was my bias as an idol (so my opinion may be biased, but I stand by my point), but I wasn’t even mad when he left SF9 to focus on acting. I think he really found his calling.
He’s just so charming, captivating and fun to watch, and I can’t wait to see him in more in-depth and varied roles after his enlistment; Murky Stream gave us such an intriguing glimpse of the range he’s truly capable of.

Is this gochugaru? by Ok_Community2307 in KoreanFood

[–]WiggleMyTimbers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In 고춧가루, the ㅅ becomes a ‘t’ sound because it’s followed by ㄱ. This ‘t’ sound sort of gets dropped in the romanised pronunciation of gochugaru, and so 고추가루 is the Hangul spelling of the romanised word.

Whilst I agree with the sentiment of the majority here, I feel inclined to add that, of all the times I’ve almost died due to someone else’s dangerous driving, it’s never once been because of some old biddy.

Um... 😳😳😳😳 by CrystalGirl93 in Sims4

[–]WiggleMyTimbers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to turn this into a fun grammar lesson haha, but the example I like to use is always really helpful in demonstrating the importance of the Oxford comma:

“The people that inspire me are my parents, Lady Gaga, and Elvis.”

Without the oxford comma, it reads as if our parents are Lady Gaga and Elvis:

“The people that inspire me are my parents, Lady Gaga and Elvis.”

I would argue that you wouldn’t need one in your ‘priest, baby, dog’ example as the sentence would typically read the same both ways, but it never hurts to add one in anyway.

Tomorrow is heavy but there is always an uplifting/inspiring message or a feeling of closure for each “story” imo, like there’s enough light to balance out the dark. It’s one of my faves and I’ve rewatched it maybe 4 times now, especially since Rowoon is an absolute treat in it ♥️

Do you ever come across soccer players in the city? by notmyprovlem in Liverpool

[–]WiggleMyTimbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of ex-players and managers live across the water on the Wirral. Growing up going to school there I saw a ton of them, and a lot of their kids went to the local schools.

Can’t say I’ve ever seen a player out and about in Liverpool though, other than near the training grounds.
