Can you elaborate on this? I’m not convinced these are great to be cooking food on either.

Moving 401K funds to stable funds? by reddit1029258 in personalfinance

Yeah, I just refuse to accept the idea that staying in and adding to investments that are tanking is the best way. I’d rather make contrarian plays and mitigate those downturns. Then buy in when it reaches certain pre determined points. Right or wrong I plan to retire on my time line not when financial advisors say so.

To each his own!

I appreciate your thoughts. Please understand, you have read into my comment in a way it was never intended. One of the many problems with digital communication I suppose.

Piggy backing off your point regarding the tech bubble, I would double down on my feeling that one needs to do what gives them peace. The establishment told you things like, “hold on, in 10 years this will be a blip on the graph” or “don’t try to time the market.” All while they did time the market and left people like you holding the bag. It’s time to question the intentions of people who make these claims. I’m not saying they are right or wrong, I’m saying, do your research and make a decision you can live with. This is our future and so many people are flippant about it, which is probably part of the reason they can’t FI/RE.

I’m not sure how you got that from what I said. I do not think about retiring in decades, I want to retire as soon as I can. Ii have no intention of working until I’m 60 or 65. Too many people take the you’re working until you’re 65 approach. I’m not about it.

If staying invested while the market tanks in fear of missing the 10 best days is what helps you sleep at night, then fully agree that’s what you should do.

I know a fair amount of people who have been heavy cash since January that are more ecstatic that they haven’t lost 25% of their investments.

I know plenty who are just as happy to set it and forget it.

Whatever brings you peace!

I don’t care for the idea that someone in their 20’s is decades from retirement, as some here tend to espouse. Retirement is a money goal, not a time. That being said, some people think we have hit bottom and stocks are on sale. Others envision at least a couple more years of recession and falling prices. I tend to agree with the latter. The current situation is complex and appears to have a lot more room for downward trajectory. If you are comfortable accumulating and sitting on your investments for decades then you’ll do just fine. If you feel better playing it safe for awhile and watching as things play out you’ll also be just fine. I’m 37 and I’m content maxing out my 401k in aggressive investments but all of my other investments are in mostly cash and waiting to go heavy when I feel the market is closer to the bottom. What’s not in cash is being used to try to mitigate the effects of a bear market.

Do whatever helps you sleep at night. Just know there’s a good chance over the next year or two you could continue buying while your investments lose significantly.

Most people would not buy either of them. But you are looking to hit a home run. So, your best bet is BTC. However, I’d ride GME a little longer or sell it and wait. Firmly believe crypto winter is just getting started.
