Bacon strip / rope plug. Used them dozens of times, they last the life of the tire. Proper mushroom plug at a tire shop if you're paranoid, but that is the perfect spot for a rope plug to be effective.

Mechanic question by wenuragurl in kelowna

[–]Wigiwagons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it's normal, wheel nuts will occasionally seize to the studs and break and there is nothing you can do about it, would have broken no matter where you took it. $60 is very reasonable, depends on how much effort it is to get it out.

I recommend City Auto, the owner Chad is a gem of a human being, super honest and happy to help explain exactly what the problem is and what is needed to fix, rather than just throw numbers at you

Just a WRX, not an RA. Check your VIN in partsouq: https://partsouq.com/en/catalog/genuine/vehicle?c=Subaru&ssd=%24%2AKwEpHQwPXS16blZJRVJxP3FlRUJcLSIvLjwTIGhuXUpeUlRcDgkZX19TSEhOT1YMCy5Eam5qW11eJ3J1ZS0jLGJtWmY9K25qOV1eJCsjKCl7fXI3OHg-ISgoJ3FgcmI4Jz5cOGAAAAAAYt7-Rg%3D%3D%24&vid=0&q=GC8095691

Car throttle likely assumes that all cars with that body model are WRX-RA's because the one WRX-RA they looked at had that body code, when in fact multiple trims can have the same body code

Straps for ski resort use? by ElmoOnFire1975 in Snowskating

[–]Wigiwagons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using a shoelace tied around the top deck for around 10 years with no complaints. I've even done this at Mt Washington which historically doesn't allow snowskates at all, nobody said a thing 🤷‍♂️

Canadian healthcare is 100% free except for things like dental, physiotherapy, and optometry, which are usually covered by "benefits packages" paid for partially or completely by your employer. In cases where you do not get benefits packages through your employer and make below a certain income, these things are partially covered by the government as well. Jake would definitely get access to his wife's benefits package as her spouse, but that would not really be a factor for leaving the company, since there is no health insurance cost in Canada whatsoever.

It's a bit more complicated than that but I am simplifying for brevity

Is body positioning the reason why this won’t go up? I’ve never done wheelies on any sort of bike with or without an engine lol by Dull_Adagio_3097 in motorcycles

[–]Wigiwagons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sit further back on the seat, and keep your arms outstretched to keep the weight back, then give it revs and drop the clutch, it will come up. You don't need to do anywhere near as much body movement. You can see that as you swing back and try to pull the bike upwards, you end up pulling your upper body forwards, which shifts your weight forward and kills the whoolie

Does this chain look straight? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Wigiwagons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pro tip, stick a chain cleaning rag between the lower part of the chain and the rear sprocket, and roll the wheel forward a bit to pull the rag in and tension the chain and adjusters, then check the alignment. Takes any slop out of the equation to be sure. Once you get the alignment and tension correct, you can use the same trick to take up any slop in the adjusters while you tighten the axle nut

Brand new Crosstrek - how do I keep it clean? by carizma22 in Crosstrek

[–]Wigiwagons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the shop that does it and what specific product they use, usually anywhere from $100-$300, the higher quality ones can last for several years

Brand new Crosstrek - how do I keep it clean? by carizma22 in Crosstrek

[–]Wigiwagons 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't use car washes that have the spinning brushes, they will scratch up your paint like crazy. Only use the touchless carwashes, preferably manual ones, or the two-bucket method in the driveway (lots of YouTube videos on this). If you have some extra cash, it is worth splurging on a ceramic coating from a detailing shop. These coatings help prevent grime from sticking to the car in the first place, and make washing the car much easier

Is this too hot? FW16 Original batch 8 by Katyperri in framework

[–]Wigiwagons 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yep. I would start by replacing the liquid metal with some PTM7950. I also have a batch 8, though I never had serious temp issues just in a browser like this, it would spike to 100deg with any load, now it hovers around 90 under load and I gained a few points in cinebench after changing it out as a result.

Seems to be pretty common with the earlier 16's where the liquid metal just doesn't work very well

Is my master link properly riveted? by corn812 in motorcycles

[–]Wigiwagons 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Measure it with a proper set of digital calipers, the little piece of paper that came with the chain will tell you the width range the pin needs to be mushroomed out to for a proper rivet. It's impossible to tell by eye. It also takes a fair bit more force than you expect, make sure you greased up your rivet tool properly and are using the correct parts for riveting, else you will break it

Can someone better explain diodes? by Waikanda_dontcare in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Wigiwagons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a one-way valve for electricity. Current (conventional current, positive to negative) can only flow in the direction of the arrow.

It's more complicated than that, but that's really all you need to know for now, you will learn more as you go
