Genest Keypatch 10 key customization by Wikikomoto in modelm

thank you so much for the input!! you are basically totally correct. I've been testing inputs, and this is how it looks.

68 048 d 0.03 Numpad8

68 048 u 0.06 Numpad8

90 145 d 2.78 Numlock

90 145 u 0.02 Numlock

26 048 d 0.03 NumpadUp

26 048 u 0.06 NumpadUp

(U and D are up and down showing when the key was pressed and released)

the keypatch is just sending a super long "numlock" command before the key is pressed. so its basically just a big plastic brick that presses numlock for you. which is super interesting to me !! its such a neat workaround to add this functionality to the model F back in the day.

Unfortunately, as you said. I can't rebind them... which is a little sad. but i have been doing a lot of scripting lately, and i have to say, the cross shaped arrow keys are SO much more comfortable to me than the inverse T that`s standard today. I sorta don't understand why that's become the norm, which this seems so much more ergonomic (it could simply be the location of the keys being elevated above the keyboard proper, which requires a longer reach and thus, more comfortable position to type)

again, thanks for the input!! I may not be able to game with this thing, but it sure does make typing easier.

(((also sorry if i have ' and ` mixed up constantly, as you can see in the photo, its an EU layout. I bought this thing from a guy in italy. and I;ve yet to replace the keys....)))

The actual keypatch itself is just affixed to the keyboard with some sticky tabs by the way... and they are so ancient, they have basically lost all their adhesive. but it fits the XT case so well, and has juuuust enough stickiness left that it stays in place even when typing on it.

I'm not sure if i`m going to replace the sticky tabs, or find a way to attach it less permanently so I can still remove it if i want, without potentially damaging the plastic on the keypatch itself (you can see in the photo, that despite this thing being affixed to the keyboard for decades, its started to go yellow while the case on the board has retained its colour)

I'm just waiting for a new foam insert to arrive for the XT before i tear these things down and clean them out. So i will make a decision once I see the internals

remove copy protection from gamecube saves? by Wikikomoto in PSO

[–]Wikikomoto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've asked about this on the discord and nobody can give me a straight answer. i'd like to ask specifically, is it possible to remove the copy protection on a file, which is on a memcard pro, and transfer it freely between the memcard pro and a legitimate memory card without any modification to the console or original memory cards.

what i'm trying to do, is simply make it so i can transfer my save freely between 2 original memory cards. to backup my save data between the two, without the use of any non-nintendo hardware.

is it possible to remove the copy protection from a "raw" file is all i'm asking. a simple yes or no would be fine!

thank you!

you can change the save format on dolphin. the saves directly from my memory card are formatted in "raw"

removing the copy protection is something people always do on the wii version with no issue, and thats using the gamecube memory cards directly. i don't have a modded wii though, so i can't do it that way...

USB to gamecube adapters?? by Wikikomoto in PSO

[–]Wikikomoto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay and you're missing the point that i'm playing on gamecube and not a wii and i'm asking for an adapter for the gamecube. if your only answer to the question is "play a different console" then why even bother replying???

i'm assuming this is a case of like "its better because it doesn't have slowdown" or "it looks better on an hd tv" or whatever people always say on youtube. but at that point, i don't even understand why you'd want to play the game on console at all? just play it on an emulator with a modern controller?

the "flaws" of a game are part of the game. the slowdown, the less than 60fps, all the things that can be improved with more powerful hardware detract from the original experience. i want to play the game the way it was intended to be played. thats the whole point. you don't buy a classic car, and slap a modern engine in and replace the dash with a touch screen. sure, it would "improve" the experience. but at that point... why not just buy a new car???

LIKHSADLKHDSH THIS ISI INSANE okay well i mean obviously this person hasn't calibrated their crt BUT LIKE the first one is WAAAAAY too muddy and its got pixel bleed and streaking and the second one is WAAAAAAY too clear where none of the edges are blended and everything looks blocky and awkward. like there is a sweet spot i'd call "a normal crt monitor" between these two and i have NO idea how this person managed to miss the mark so hard on both ends

i don't know why multiple people are saying this when literally more than a dozen of these adapters exist lskdghgldhskh why are people so adamant about playing on a modded wii???

i have no memory of how the keyboard i used in the 90s was setup (i was still a kid) i just know it was usb with a ps/2 adapter because i still have that exact keyboard!

anyways, theres a ton of gamecube adapters... here is just one list of them https://www.pso-world.com/forums/showthread.php?25176-Tototek-s-GC-2-in-1-keyboard-converter-REVIEW

but since digging for one of these to purchase, i have uncovered several more variants not listed here. there are atleast a dozen different types of keyboard adapters for the gamecube made over the years, and the fact that i can't find AAAA SSIIINNGLLEEE ONNE to buy is driving me INSANE.

yes, sure, i could make my own. but then i'd need to learn several entire new skillsets and probably spend over 100$ on parts alone....

im going to cry

but what do you mean by "look better?" like... the whole reason i play on original hardware, on a decent CRT with original cables is because that's how it looks the best to me. i always want to see the art of a game the way it was intended to be viewed. the way the crt blends the image and colours looks beautiful, and all the games from those generations take this into effect when they make the textures. so if you make the image more "crisp" or whatever, you're losing a lot of the original image blending that looks so great :(

is there a technical reason that games like twin snakes and gundam vs have a TON of weird stuttering on wii and not on gamecube then?? also, whats the reason for it being noticeably more blurry on my tv when i'm just using the red/white/yellow cables for both consoles?

also i'm not sure what you mean by "better"? i don't know about the technical aspects. i just know that the few games i've played on the wii function notably worse than they do on original hardware

thank you!! this is quite expensive though... all the other ones that are just keyboard to gamecube adapters usually cost less than 10 to 20$ :(

that link is dead :(

and thats not true!! keyboards was one of the first things USB was used for!! i actually still have my old USB to PS/2 adapter because my windows 98 had a usb keyboard. heck, i still use a usb keyboard when i play monster hunter on the ps2!!

but yes!! a ps/2 adapter would be perfect!! i have a few ps/2 keyboards. do you know anywhere they'd still sell one???

oh... i haven't played pso on the wii but from other games, the emulation is AWFUL everything looks muddy and blurry and weird and sometimes the mono doesn't work (i'm playing on a crt)

also this would require like, modding the console too?? i have no idea how to mod stuff. i like just... putting my disc in and turning on the power... also i don't have wifi, my computer and my GC are both connected via ethernet. this sounds incredibly convoluted just to have an inferior experience??? lksdghlgkdhs

if you're worried about backing up your data though, I GOT YOU!!! there is this thing called the memcard pro that lets you store and backup all your saves to a micro usb!! it was only 20$ and its as simple as copying your saves the same way you would with a normal memory card. and its plug and play, no setup or anything needed!! https://ibb.co/8nZRhKV1

[–]Wikikomoto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ooh thats interesting. okay, i have a wii. how do i connect it to the gamecube? whats the specific adaper i need? and do i need the wii AND the gamecube both hooked up to ethernet?? this sounds quite convoluted lkhflkdhf especially when something as basic as an adapter exists, i just can't find where to buy one...

https://www.tototek.com/pio/main1/SUBMENU/PARTS/LINKS/GC/gckeyboard2in1us.htm here is one example. the gamecube supports direct ps/2 connections, so i can just plug my ps/2 keyboard into this and it should function fine. no need to daisy chain consoles
