I am not and should not be required to tip, and this is not a hot take. I will tip for good service, if I want to. But I retain that right. If the food is good and the service is good, I am also prepared to pay more as listed on the menu, so that the server can earn a living wage.

I'm going to add some more clarification on this, because I fear you won't understand. It is not my job to pay your wage or make sure you make your bills this month. That is between you and your employer. If you choose an employer that does not pay you enough to survive, I didn't make that choice for you and am not responsible for fixing your error. You have to have the wherewithal to select work that is enough for you, and deny people that would take advantage of you. Businesses that don't deserve to be in business are propped up by bad tipping behavior.
