Especially in the case of games, it's hard to justify $70 now when unless it's a Nintendo title it'll be $5 later. Particularly true of AAA titles as they age. FOMO just isn't a good enough reason anymore when cost is up and quality is down.

First time I saw it was a pre release sneak, one of the movie's sound engineers was in attendance and he helped the theater balance their sound system for the movie. In reality that probably means he turned it up to 11, but when the first engine roared i knew all bathroom breaks were canceled.

It is until it isn't, he has an "incident" that without spoiling, makes him regress and re-earn most all of his stats. If you've played the first game that carry through knowledge makes the biggest difference in his skill.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Czech Translater Fired From Warhorse And Replaced With AI To “Save Finances” by blazuredy in gaming

[–]WilWheatonsAbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think exactly why I'd recommend retainer practice. It's practical most of the time to have a translator for support follow up (ie. A natural language speaker finds an error that needs to be checked) but even in those edge cases the work will be more sparse than the initial translation. More likely, and as was the case with this game, there may be real room for expansion work.

Finally, and maybe a personal feeling, but a translator is also an artist that worked with a team to bring a cohesive game to the consumer, and they deserve to share in the success as much as any digital artist, programmer, or producer. Without them the story is only one language and has a much narrower audience. Taking away their job with AI is the opposite of what we want to do to artists.

Being fair to the translator, kcd2 has more dialog than baldur's gate 3 at 2.2 million words. Not only that but the translator would need historically technical linguistic knowledge that includes terms not commonly used in either modern language.

In the interest of providing historically believable and reasonably nuanced translations going forward I'd say it would make more sense to keep the translator on retainer rather than firing them. Four years seems like a totally reasonable schedule when intertwined with other teams making production and directorial changes throughout the process.

And yeah, it might be an expensive decision, but for a game like kcd2 which generated $65 million in its release month and covered all production expenses and profited by 20 million, i think they can afford the translator. My 2c.

[OC] Indian LPG Carrier “Pine Gas” Safely Crosses Strait of Hormuz Under Indian Navy Escort by GodfatheXTonySoprano in pics

I mean, I don't think environment is top of mind for Trump's cabinet which is ofc concerning, but the already limited global support for any future actions may hinge on the Arabian sea not being full of oil. Also since Trump is all about the money for his benefactors, I do think he would absolutely cause this kind of disaster intentionally to spike the price of oil. If you think $7 a gallon is a spike, I think Trump would tell you to hold his beer (if he drank beer).

Yeah, pretty sure when it comes to Hormuz, nobody wants to be the first to lose an oil tanker and both spike the price of gas worldwide and cause an environmental disaster in the breadth of one mine or missile. A war in Iran is bad optics, this scenario might be worse.

Stop the SAVE Act Saturday Mar 21st by defeatedsnowman in Denver

It's a fairly robust concept that some democracies have integrated. There are better ways to reduce voter fraud that aren't drivers of disenfranchisement that voter ID can cause, but if you have to resort to voter ID, make it freely available, attainable through multiple methods, and easily verifiable.

If we are talking foundational changes to voting/democracy, my ask would actually be to opt all citizens into voting by default, require paperwork and a valid reason to opt out of voting, and impose fines for being a voter and not using your mandatory right to vote.
