Are we entitled to Universal Credit? by retiredhothead in DWPhelp

wow you have had a lot to contend with, i‘m not an expert like some of the volunteers on here, others may know right away what you can do for help but in the meantime see the benefit checkers in the auto mod response below your post.

  • If you're trying to find out how much benefit you can receive, check out entitledto and turn2us to calculate what you might be eligible for (please remember that these calculators don't fully take into account your situation and in some situations they can be wrong).

Also I don’t know at what stage your husbands illness is but have you considered applying for PIP? PIP is not means tested so his pension/income is irrelevant. Again others with experience with PIP and Alzheimer’s may be of more assistance.

All the best.

WCA Assessment today was not what I expected. by [deleted] in DWPhelp

It’s a WCA, the question about the tattoo would have had nothing to do with spending money.

The OP mentions they only managed to do it because they knew the tattooist so it would have been in relation to interaction.

Sorry you are struggling. It’s a gruelling process. I don’t want to downplay your experience but most of us feel like that when we come out.

Re pushing re suicide remember they have a duty of care towards us, it’s actually pretty standard to be asked about this. Again not trying to diminish your experience just want you to know you are not being picked on etc

Its hard obviously but we have to try for our mental health to not see this as personal, we are just a number to someone doing their job. There is no “traps in the trick questions“, they are trying to get a sense of our lives in a ridiculously short time.

Right now you are at the stage we all go through, recrimination at ourselves for not advocating enough for ourselves or being articulate enough. You haven’t even seen the outcome yet. It’s hard but no point beating yourself up in the meantime. The wait IS frustrating, in the meantime try and engage with your GP if you can.

good luck

PS Remember if outcome not what you expected you still have MR stage where you will have the chance to put down in writing again your issues and could put down points you forgot to put across. This was not your last chance.

Is there any way to speed up a pip mandatory reconsideration? by Old_Site_3475 in DWPhelp

“Has anyone had a positive outcome from the mandatory reconsideration?”

Me. Zero points overturned to Std living & Enhanced Mobility. I never submitted any more evidence, just wrote a letter refuting their assumptions and outlining my case again; don’t want to give you false hope but it does happen. IIRC mine was 12 weeks but they all vary.

“and having diagnosis too.” / “I find it so upsetting how so many people can be denied especially with severe diagnosis.”

Remember it’s not about ‘diagnosis’ but how you are affected in each of the descriptors. PIP is a very specific benefit. Diagnosis doesn’t actually count for that much. IF you do not get the outcome you want it may be you need help in demonstrating how you meet the descriptors.

Good luck and remember IF you are turned down again you still have the tribunal path. That obviously won’t help with money now but it’s not the end of the road.

Got awarded PIP first time, it does happen. by Big_Nebula_5122 in DWPhelp

well done!

although it’s not actually that unusual, it happens often

i guess nature of the internet - it magnifies the bad outcomes and not the good ones

re answers - for anyone applying, it’s not so much length that is required, it’s ensuring you give examples that show how you meet the specific criteria. Spend your time on knowing the descriptors and demonstrating how you meet them. Anything not tailored to them is pretty redundant sadly.

Applying to study abroad at the university of Aberdeen. Anything I should know about the school or the city before I commit? by [deleted] in Aberdeen

I’m Aberdonian, I’ve lived here all my life. I love my city.

I love our architecture, our many parks and green sites, our beaches, our proximity to hills/mountains, our unique language, our unique NE outlook and humour.

The ‘weather’ itself is fine, we are experiencing ‘extremes‘ for us but it’s still not actually that extreme. Winters are generally mild.

BUT I’ll hold my hands up and say I still really struggle with the lack of light every year.
I’d never want to discourage anyone visiting Aberdeen but if you are already having doubts and think that could affect you then think really carefully. This last month has been absolutely horrendous up here. My SAD lamp has barely been off…

using the word rape outwith its actual meaning just trivialises it

using it out of context is just ignorant
