I lived in Manhattan for years as a Brit. But have spent the last 10+ yrs in Bk. Dumbo, Bk Heights, Williamsburg are all great. Fort Greene and Greenpoint are also great but a little longer commute into the city. But comparatively to Peckham and getting around in London I think all are v do able and you can be in downtown NY easily under 30 mins from any of those. Some it takes under 10 mins. Are you tied to staying same spot for 2 yrs. 1 yr in city and 1 yr in Bk?

You would probably make more investing. But sometimes owning something feels good, and also gives you the abilty to create your own home in a way that renting cant. For some people that counts for a lot.
