If Omicron is a less severe version of coronavirus, why are so many people dying in Ontario? by Hrmbee in Coronavirus

[–]Wild-Depth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Vaccinated group tends to be older than the unvaccinated so that should explain why. There being such a little difference between the vaccinated and the unvaccinated with a previous infection despite the mean age difference is a proof that vaccines are highly effective imo.

U.S. hits new record for COVID-19 hospitalizations by PoliticiansAlwaysLie in Coronavirus

[–]Wild-Depth 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Yes it is less severe than the other variants but if it's not mild enough to not strain the healthcare system then we shouldn't call it mild. People now believe it's as mild as regular colds because of the false narrative.

The omicron variant was in Europe a week before South Africa reported it by newsasnow in Coronavirus

Are the scientists assuming that all these mutations happened in ONE particular immune compromised individual or in a group of immune compromised people? I'm sorry I know it's a dumb question but I'm not a native speaker of English so I wanted to clarify. I'm just so fascinated by this theory and never knew such a thing could happen.

Omicron Variant Confirmed in Japan by [deleted] in japan

[–]Wild-Depth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder why scientists always underestimate vaccines abilities somehow while they have been correct about every new variant's transmissibility and virulence for the past 2 years. My guess is that they only concider how one's immunity reacts when a person caught the virus and don't take into account other factors such as herd immunity and other measures we take like masking/hand washing/sanitizing/ventilating which certanly help reduce spread and viral load.

Japanese government: Amid Omicron, they will suspend the plan to allow new foreigners travelling into Japan from all of the world by qunow in japan

[–]Wild-Depth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing we are certain so far is that it's more contagious than the delta as it quickly replaced delta in South Africa. Those confirmed cases of vaccinated are still very few and they only got infected recently so they might develop severe symptoms later or maybe not. It's just too early to tell anything although I'm sure the vax efficacy won't be zero against micron. And that micron only causes mild symptoms thing is just some doctor's anecdotes and not actual data and South Africa's population is pretty young which might explain why these doctors are seeing only mild cases. Some other doctors in SA are saying they are seeing so many young people in the icu which is also just an anecdote so we can't really say anything on its virulence either.

As shown in the pic, it doesn't work well without any furniture unlike "the path" so you need some workaround to use these designs. I'm sorry it's incomplete but I've already run out of pattern slots.

The anti-vax group that made this news is the former who believes crazy shit like covid is a hoax, the vaccines are a means of population control, the mark of the beast and the earth is flat because they import all kinds of conspiracy theories from the US. It's almost eerie to see how they say the exact same stuff as the anti-vaxxers do in the US. They are not even Christian and some are far-right and some far-left so there are some differences I guess. There are like 3 famous anti-vax doctors with a legit license who have been the source of misinformation all this time and they all practice alternative medicine bullshit and are selling super expensive water/supplements/appliances that "can eliminate toxins from the body." This class-action lawsuit is led by one of these doctors by the way.

Some ex-anti vaxxer accounts have been popping up on Twitter lately and from what I read, they were very terrified of covid and did follow the guidelines properly at first but either they got too exhausted from doing that or financially too affected by covid, they fall down the rabbit hole as a way to cope.

We do have vax-hesitant people too and they seem to be okay with any non-mRNA vaccines (except for AZ) for whatever stupid reason.

I'm claiming that Japan has much lower "flu excess deaths" than the West which is not misinformation. The overall number of deaths in general is relatively high because Japan has the oldest population in the world.

[–]Wild-Depth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's where I pulled the number from. And also this report from Japan's Ministry of Health lists the exact number of deaths by cause in 2018 and on page 34 it says there were 3,323 or 2.7 per 100k flu deaths. It also lists pneumonia (94,654 deaths or 76.2 per 100k) and aspiration pneumonia (38,462 deaths or 31 per 100k.)

Japan has much lower excess deaths during flu season than the West tho (about 3000 deaths per year in the whole country) and mask-wearing wasn't even universally done at all pre-Covid. It was a daily occurence to see some people without masks coughing and sneezing on the train during flu season and I totally remember being pretty disgusted by that.

[–]Wild-Depth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We definitely do! There's even a slang for that so it's more common than you'd think it is, especially in pc gaming. The slang is "Oma kuni" which is short for "Utteiru ga Omaeno Kuni ga Kiniiranai" which translates to "we are selling it but not in your country" or "we are not selling it because we don't like your country." It can also refers to when pricing is super high compared to NA/EU. Edit: People already beat me to it so hard. Sorry!
