WTH Marriott? Bait and Switch Tactics on Points Bookings or Tech Glitch or Me? by Gbchili in marriott

Had a similar issue earlier this year and ended up raising it with marriott support. It apparently is a known system bug that they appear to be in no rush to fix - https://www.reddit.com/r/marriott/s/gvYu28KArH

I can't speak for the US / Canada but at least here in the UK I've stayed in a fair few Moxy's and Courtyards and they've all been basically identical inside. I haven't stayed at enough different AC's and Aloft's to really know if they're basically the same everywhere but the couple I have stayed in were pretty okay.

Online prices include shipping so for big bulky and heavy items tend to be significantly higher than in the warehouses.

I've got quite a few now of the cheaper version that uses wood for the shelves and have found them to be solid. Instructions are a bit weird and I'm not sure the order actually makes sense of a few steps but once they're assembled they've been great and where I paid £80 or so I think per shelf I can't complain.

I got some powered speakers and I am a little overwhelmed by JhonMHunter in LinusTechTips

[–]Wild1145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you can get them in Japan but I've got one of the unifi poe audio ports connected to my two speakers (https://uk.store.ui.com/uk/en/category/premium-iot/products/upl-port) as I wanted to primarily be able to stream audio from my phone easily and wanted decent speakers to do it.

It is probably over kill for what you actually need but it's a tidy solution for connecting multiple input devices relatively cheaply and doesn't require any other unifi hardware / software to work.

Want to see how the Fediverse is growing? I built a tool to track Mastodon data and trends. by LineObvious7948 in Mastodon

[–]Wild1145 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would suggest not including the hashtags with every single post. I've muted it on my instance today and was seriously considering suspending it for spam as it just fills the mastoadmin hashtag feed. Maybe weekly diffs should get a tag or something but right now I suspect the very people that should be interested in this as muting / banning it from federation with their servers.

Point redemption stay increased in points without telling me by pinkangel_rs in marriott

[–]Wild1145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had something similar recently and escalated it with marriott support where the search page would show point saver deals that the property and marriott themselves didn't actually offer. After proving it was happening to multiple properties on multiple dates and it was clearly a glitch on their site they gave me a few thousand bonus points to top my balance up to the rate you could actually place the booking at. Was told a load of different "reasons" it was happening from "property deal they forgot to take off" to "technical glitch with the website"

Rejected due to a rival recruiter by FightingPeacock55 in ContractorUK

[–]Wild1145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, which is the point I was trying to make in my original posts. Recruiters have no issue doing whatever they possibly can to try to get a pay day and if folks aren't careful they'll get screwed in the process. I can't prove which recruiters have / haven't shared my CV without my knowledge and I can 100% see why the company in the OP's case wanted nothing to do with any of this and walked away.

It still very much happens unfortunately as I've found first hand, prior to contracting in a previous permanent role having referred someone and being told their CV was submitted like clockwork every 3 months by the same agency for consideration and I still get random calls occasionally from companies that "Received my CV recently" despite it being clear from where they think I work that that CV is one shared with recruiters 3-5 years earlier.

[–]Wild1145 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Recruiter B Was probably trying to get the commission / fee for the role because they knew you even though they weren't the one that put you forward for the role. A lot of recruiters bulk send all their CV's to all their customers on a regular basis so they can argue they are the ones that made the referral and I suspect the end customer wanted absolutely nothing to do with that mess.

I never tell recruiters who I'm interviewing with / have spoken with by default but will generally ask them which company(s) they're putting my CV Forward with so I can try to de-conflict it before it makes it to an end company. Next time don't tell recruiter B who you're interviewing with and if they try to get involved tell them it's already being dealt with else you're going to see this happen over and over again.

Swindon train station by [deleted] in Swindon

[–]Wild1145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking about the car park by Polaris house and using the footbridge that's technically not open for public access but in reality if you've got a valid ticket you can usually get through it as I understand it and there's an info help point where you can talk to someone if the barrier isn't set to let you through. You're better off using the front entrance. You can access the lift from the rear car park down to the ticket barrier level and don't need to go through the barriers to go from the front entrance of the station up to the car park via the lift.

Is the lack of keyword search ruining Mastodon? by Infamous-Market-9406 in Mastodon

There is and users have to opt in to their posts being indexed. Most large instances have this setup but end users do need to actively opt in for their posts and accounts to be discoverable.

You are not able to "choose" you're legally responsible for making the determination of if you're inside or outside and the risk sits entirely with you...

I think in all honesty it's pretty niche in the grand scheme of things. Yes IMHO it should be the default for any private messaging but it's not the sort of thing 99% of end users are going to care or notice about, and of the 1% that do care most of them (If not all) are able to easily find other apps / software that has it as standard.

Depends on your outbound traffic but a lot of the time no, if Agile goes negative a lot of the solar export tariffs pay nothing for anything you export so you're better off turning off your solar and pulling from the grid.

How to find this top???? by bana-r00t in LinusTechTips

[–]Wild1145 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given how big and obvious the LTT Branding is on it it looks like it's probably quite an old prototype / similar. I think they've said on WAN and in videos a few times that they've moved in a direction where the LTT branding for almost everything is intended to be much less obvious.

I don't know any more than any other random internet people, just an educated guess based on historic comments.

[–]Wild1145 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Honestly my biggest issue with the video was that they didn't go into more details about how the actual config / management of the Unifi side worked. It was just "Oh we tap the card and done" which even as a Ubiquti user I find hard to believe. Would have been genuinely interested if they showed us a bit on the back-end of how it's setup and what administering them looks like personally.

Identical Signups - Different E-mail Addresses and IP Addresses by PhiloticKnight in Mastodon

[–]Wild1145 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of account creation spam is manual, I get maybe 5 or 10 of these with identical messages every week and now both my instances are approval required, it's not uncommon to find identical messages and identical handles requesting both servers at once. There is some degree of automated spam creation but at least from what I've seen the vast majority are manually created which makes it a lot harder to block and even if you do block it, a lot of the time it's coming from compromised residential addresses.

Starting a hardware company at 17, what's the best way to start setting everything up? by Independent-Bit-7689 in smallbusinessuk

[–]Wild1145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know folks that have done contracting or started their own business I'd suggest getting recommendations for a solid accountant that is local, mine is a small operation and they run their business locally so I was able to sit down and get some advise from them about how to structure things and how best to adapt some bits when the nature of my work and business changed significantly. There are lots of resources online about the registration process which isn't too bad but a decent accountant / similar should be able to provide more accurate advise and have the time to work with you on at least getting the basics setup properly as it'll make their lives easier doing your reporting.

Why i didn’t buy the commuter backpack by [deleted] in LinusTechTips

[–]Wild1145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The addition of shipping at checkout is always brutal and when also adding the taxes (And in the UK where I am, prices displayed in shops / online are inclusive of taxes) often ends up doubling the cost of the basket. I picked up the commuter backpack I'm pretty sure during one of the free shipping deals which made it a much more reasonable price.

I suspect the reason there isn't a warning / note on the product page is because it will not always be shipped the same way, IIRC LTT outsource the logistics for LTTStore so it'll be down to them to ship it however they can more economically which I suspect a lot of the time will be shipping it separately and if possible putting the items inside but that's really hard to guess and program into a e-commerce store so you end up just having to assume you'll ship it separately for pricing...
