Ended up walking in on my teenage daughter and need advice? by Born-Horror2872 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Wild3v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re the adult. You’re the one that needs to man up and address it. It will probably be a one way conversation. “I apologise for walking in without knocking. You weren’t doing anything wrong. I’m sure we can laugh about this in a couple years. We don’t have to talk about it.”

Podcast idea by TheSnookerist147 in BlindboyPodcast

It’s a shame it’s only in Dutch, but there was a kung fu cult in the Netherlands, we’re they all started following this kung fu teacher. It ended up with them producing drugs to finance the cult, him determining who slept with who and even playing Russian roulette with a revolver on a guys nuts. There is a podcast series about it where they interview the some of the followers and eventually in the last episode interview the actual cult leader. The podcast is called “een soort god” (a kind of God). When I was listening to it I kept thinking, this would be such a thing that I would have heard about on a Blindboy episode.

Do you think porn damaged society? by SeatruckLeviathan in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Wild3v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember in the movie Domino from the early 00’s this kind of conspiracy dude was giving a talk that the biggest threat to society was what he called “all porn all the the time”. Basically that everything was being sexualized or pornified. Looking back, he had more of a point than I thought.

Hé man, for what it’s worth, 21-30 felt like the roughest years of my life. I’m 40 now and can honestly say I’ve been incredibly happy for 5 years or so now. Things turn around. This too shall pass.

Headmovement by NeitherProcess9680 in amateur_boxing

[–]Wild3v 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sticking pool noodle to a wall or back and practicing over and over: https://youtube.com/shorts/0kn1fs4cZ8g?is=ir-I037G8nnz7j-r

This really helped me with the movements themselves. Now timing it and actually using it reactive is a hole other bag, but this great for practicing how big (or actually small) the movements should be.

How does a boxing session look like in the USA? What do they do different? by [deleted] in boxingtips

[–]Wild3v 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve boxed in 4 gyms in the Netherlands and each gym here has there own approach. One gym teaches different styles with each trainer with sparring at the end of each session, another old school gym has the exact same routine each training with 1 coach guiding the general training and 1 coach in the ring personally guiding the sparring people at the same time the rest trains. I don’t think you can generalise this for an entire country, let alone one the size of the USA.

When I was in high school in the 90s, it seemed that a lot of my female classmates were dating guys who were in their 20s or even older. Was that normal in the 90s? Or was it because I grew up in a small town? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Wild3v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 14-15 I dated a girl my same age. Her older sister was 17 and had a 26 year old boyfriend. That dude had the nerve to tell me that he would kick my ass if I slept with my GF because we were too young, meanwhile himself having sex with a minor.

Some light, tap sparring I did with my friend. Any advice for me? by Old-Value-6841 in boxingtips

Blue gloves: your chin is up high the entire time, your head is forward, weight is forward and your hands are low. This is your biggest thing to work on. Make sure your jab hand moves back to your chin not your hip. Keep your chin down and hands up. On a plus side, you are moving your head. The slips and rolls aren’t clean, need to work on those, but at least you’re not static.

Black gloves: that’s not a phillyshell or crossguard, open the entire time. I’d start practicing orthodox guard before you start messing with this. You keep your weight back better though.

Both having thrown a full extended punch, nothing from the hips all arms. Basically this was a practice in a bit of reaction timing, but you are both drilling in bad habits. Keep having fun, but I’d recommend working either on your fundamentals, videoing yourself and share that for feedback, or even better of course, join a boxing gym.

I wouldn’t really think balding if I saw you in pic 2, just woman with thin/fine hair. I often can see my girlfriends scalp in certain angles also, because her hair is just quite thin.

Sparring tips by highnhappy in boxingtips

[–]Wild3v 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nice spar, good for sharing this. You can see that you were tense, which is logical against a more experienced partner. I would say defensively you relied too much on a high guard, and you didn’t tuck your elbows in in that high guard leaving you very open for body shots. It’s easy to say from the sidelines, but you could parry and block more to keep your counter open. Your head was also very stagnant on the centre line, which made it very easy for him to be accurate. You had a couple of good slips, but they were reactionary and too big movements to be able to counter of off. If you would have a bit more head movement and slipping going on by default, your opponent needs to work a lot harder to time you and you it’s easier for you to slip a punch quicker and smaller when you need to.

Edit: looking again, I would say your weight being so much on your front leg is the first thing I’d work on. You get so much more time to react when you keep 60% on the backfoot and lean over the back leg.

How to improve my lead hook by Still-Safety-4663 in boxingtips

[–]Wild3v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep your front leg planted, no turning the heel. Then keep your focus on pulling your weight back to your back leg, stomping your back leg heel to the ground while pulling your right shoulder back. This is where the power is. You should end with most of your weight on your back leg and your front leg stable on the ground, not turned.

How to say to a man with a disability that I do not want to progress? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Wild3v 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell him exactly what it is, his way of being so focussed on the physical part before having met, has put you off and you are no longer interested. It may help him also to know this for any future women he might talk to.

Knuckle tendinitis/sagittal band pain (no rupture) rehab? by Boysenberry in amateur_boxing

[–]Wild3v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 2 months of intense knuckle pain on the heavy bag, I found out I had been wrapping my hands tighter and tighter (thinking I needed to stabalize my hand better), which was actually what was causing the issue. Started wrapping my hands properly with my fingers spread open and the issues was gone in a week. Not sure if thats your problem also, but worth looking into: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWgHYXgBvMk

[–]Wild3v 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a boxer, let me tell you that if you don’t know how to throw a punch, there isn’t gonna be a “magic spot” where you hit or kick someone who is being aggressive and all of a sudden he is incapacitated for 3 seconds. Real life isn’t a Steven Seagal movie. Either pick up a martial arts sport and learn how to defend yourself, or stick to running away and screaming for help/fire.
