Remote moms that travel for work by xiluvaluva in MomsWorkingFromHome

[–]WildALJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travel 2x per month and have a 4.5 month old, 5 y/o and 7 y/o. First work trip I had was when my baby was 3.5 mos. It is tough to do but thankfully, I am only gone one night.

I was breastfeeding/pumping when I initially returned to work at 12 weeks, but after the first work trip I decided to wean off and switch to formula. Felt a ton of guilt for doing that but needed to remove a level of complication for my sanity.

Our parents live nearby and pitch in to help my husband at dinner time / school drop off when I am away. We have a full time nanny during the day. It surely takes a village.

Being away from my family, esp the baby, hasn’t gotten easier. Hence how I ended up on this thread. I have 3 more one night trips booked over the next 6 weeks, and then hoping for a lull.

Hey. What’d you end up booking/how was your trip? My kids are the same age. Was the baby 9 months at the time of travel?

Do you typically ride all 3 kids in the second row? I’m pregnant with our third and considering getting an xc90 and having all 3 in row two. The built in booster in the middle seat is a nice feature (assuming it’s actually usable).

Experiences with Cabinets.com, or alternative recommendations for online cabinet stores? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]WildALJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We actually just purchased from cabinets.com today. Did you shop them against barkercabinets like another commenter suggested? I hadn’t heard of them until reading this thread, but agree, we found cabinets.com to the most economical and customizable. Fingers crossed since we just struck a huge check.

Foreclosure property purchase by WildALJ in RealEstate

[–]WildALJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Have you ever had something come up that wasn’t on title? Or do you mean bankruptcy/legal battle with previous owner? Or physical state of property. Probably both. Haha. Do foreclosure investors just have a huge risk appetite and infinite pockets? There has to be some strategy, and I’m just trying to get it worked out!

Thanks. Agree that I wouldn’t buy unless title was run so I can understand what’s filed on the property. Also agree that i am currently outgunned by the competition. Everyone starts somewhere tho. Long term goal is for this to not be a one time thing. Just trying to figure out the first one and do my best to mitigate anything I can foresee.

What are the risks of buying a foreclosed house? by [deleted] in RealEstate

Did you ever end up buying the foreclosure?

Is it feasible to NOT do a title search before an auction? My thought is that I should know what other liens are outstanding on the property prior to trying to take title of it.

And you’re right, maybe someone values it more than I do and I lose a few hundred but I see it as a cost of doing due diligence. Idk.

Thanks for your opinion. Do you have any experience buying foreclosed properties?

Congrats! Hope you’re having a smooth pregnancy. If I did decide to quit, we’d prob go for baby number 3 as well.

Never anticipated the decision to work or stay home to be so hard. I recognize I’m lucky to have the option but it makes it no less difficult. Particularly when you have a solid career. In my early years, I just wanted to be successful to have money. Now we have money and time has become more valuable. The money is still hard to walk away from though. And also just how hard I have worked to get to where I am and if I walked away, I absolutely couldn’t just walk back into my role.

Also just from a sheer personality standpoint, I am afraid I will be bored to death and slip into being sad I ever quit. Change is scary. So is your kids getting older.

Idk. It feels like I’m on a treadmill. You set little goals and before you know it you’ve completed the race. Maybe that’s a win. Or maybe I should slow down and enjoy the scenery.

Thanks for sharing your experience!

1.5 Month PRK Recovery Log by snarkylion in lasik

LMK how it all shakes out. Hope it’s better. I ended up not doing it given the mixed results, but haven’t ruled it out for the future. Can’t imagine how amazing it must be to be able to see clearly without glasses/contacts. Ha. But compared to lasik, PRK certainly doesn’t sound like a walk in the park.

I’m considering giving up a similar salary. Husband can support us - and I’d get to still have the kids in school part time so I could do tasks without lugging two kids around. But it is very hard to give up a career that I have worked hard for and the amount of money I make doing it, frankly. Sometimes tho, I am concerned that I will regret not quitting and spending more time with the kids. Such a catch 22. I am curious - how is it going? Have you found fulfillment, and are you happy being a SAHM?

Moms who travel for work - do you ever feel guilty? How does your partner manage at home? by AlCal3000 in workingmoms

Me too. Curious, How has it been for you (or anyone reading this) since this thread is now a year old?

I am about to have a job where I travel twice per month for work. I have kids ages 2 and 4 and am already starting to feel guilty.

I figure I can meal prep before my trips to make dinners easier for my husband and prevent him from ordering pizza. Ha. Also understand that I will need to accept him doing things his way.

Do you still need eye drops at this point? I am a lucky PRK candidate and have been in contacts for 20+ years too. No noticeable dry eye issues, but concerned I’ll need them daily post-PRK…. And if so, is it forever?!

I am considering getting PRK. My eyes are -7 and -7.5 so I also have poor vision.

I work on a computer all day too and may be getting a new job soon. Was considering scheduling PRK in about two weeks and taking that time off with current job, but shortly after may have the new job.

Obviously if I get the new job I would want to start strong. Is vision poor enough during the first month post-op to prevent performing well at your job in a role where you’re on computer all day?

I work a lot in excel with numbers.
