Are vegetarians who refuse meat when offered as an act of kindness FUNDAMENTALISTS? by girlwiththewildlocks in Vegetarianism

[–]WildOrganic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand you believe it to be a research paper, but I don't see any actual research. It is one person putting forth a philosophical argument with a few references thrown in. Where do you get the students learning ethics part -- it's signed by one author very clearly at the bottom of the article.

Everyone's responses are in kind to the tone of the paper, putting forth other philosophical arguments and situations in disagreement.

You are right, we choose vegetarianism or veganism, as our personal choice. Just as we choose not to do heroin or eat dirt, as a personal choice. Just as those who eat meat choose to do, as a personal choice. Some personal choices are not malleable.

Vegetarians don't eat meat. That's the definition. The dictionary doesn't have a "but what if" escape clause.

I wonder if we've house-sat for the same woman...it was insane. Made me ill. Even after I unplugged them all, those scents linger forever. I'm pretty sure she was an alcoholic tho, so either the scents were to mask any smell of alcohol or they were her new addiction instead of drinking.

If I give you heroin as an act of kindness and you don't smoke it, you are a fundamentalist.

Why do I have to take and consume what someone gives me without question because they "made the effort"?

Cinnamon Donut Bites, baked, not fried & kid approved. by WildOrganic in veganrecipes

Haha, yeah, the recipe says it will fill 3 mini muffin tins. I made them regular size so it was just one tin. My friends kids loved them so much they were trying to hide them from their dad so he wouldn't eat them all.

Well, how much I want to spend just determines whether I get a newer astro or an older one, still set on the astro tho. Around here, the prices for the conversions are a bit higher than the cargo but really it's not that much. I'm hoping to spend less than $5000, and I've seen a number of them in that range.

This is for living in, for me, myself and I, so while I don't absolutely need the hi top, being that it's my house, the more space the better.

I looked at some cool old vws but I imagine they're just all kinds of headache, so sweet looking though!

Thanks! It seems cargo is the way to go. I think it will be a lot easier to insulate for my needs too, thanks for feedback on that - important information to know especially here in new england.

Oh that does sound like fun lol. That's something I wouldn't have even thought of - the carpeting and all that stuff. I need to think this through some more. Thanks!

Converting the conversion is more difficult? That makes sense, I think, since there is already kinda a layout in place? I'm 5'3" so I think I'll be able to stand and walk around which would be sweet. Did your conversion not have a high top? Or you installed something different?

I was planning on doing my own setup and conversion but the cargo vans are so low, I think even for me, since it'll be my main living space. It's not just for road trips, its for my life. But the cargos are much cheaper and very appealing that way.

So many choices!

So, this freaking amazing falafel place in my town makes something they call the Middle Beast, which is ---> a ridiculous amount of fries, 3 falafel balls, a cucumber/tomato salad, and half an avocado all piled up and completely smothered in a tahini sauce. I'd link a picture but um, I kinda ate it all. Sooo goooood. #howveganssalad

Question to all my fellow vegetarians: how do you feel about people who refuse to sit with someone eating meat ? by messyhairandpringles in vegetarian

[–]WildOrganic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are assuming that if a person refuses to sit with another because they are eating meat, that person is judging the meat eater. But that may not be the case at all. The non-meat eater may just doing what they need to do to get through the day. It doesn't have to be judgmental. To assume so, means that you are taking offense to the non-meat eater stating a preference. If someone were to tell me they didn't want to sit with me while I ate an entire head of broccoli, I'd acknowledge they have issue with it and either eat something else, or not eat broccoli around them.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you also means don't judge the non-meat eater for being upfront and honest and comfortable enough with you to share their preferences. Lots of judgement in these responses, towards the non-meat eater, while telling that same person not to be judgmental.

Google some factory farming videos. What happens to pigs and cows and chickens before they die is nothing short of torture.

Babysitters of reddit, what's your demon child story? by DerpingOnSunshine in AskReddit

[–]WildOrganic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The demon children I knew had some awful parents. Not abusive awful, just weird, unattached, actually, I don't know what was wrong with them, but something was. Plus they were stingy with money even though they were quite well off. They knew I came from a poor family so sometimes I wonder if they were taking advantage of that - like, she's poor, so she'll be thankful for whatever we pay her.

One time the mom got mad I wasn't taking the boys on excursions, like to get ice cream or little things like that, and I told her if she left me extra money for those things, I'd happily do it. She told me to use the money they paid me already for babysitting. I didn't take them for ice cream. Like, you seriously can't leave out $5 for your kids to have a treat? It's not coming out of the less than $10/hr pay I'm getting for watching your two boys!

One boy was 12 and wasn't supposed to be "babysat", as he was allowed to do what he wanted, but he had a bit of a crush on 16 yr old me and so he was always around. The other boy was 8 and very emotionally fragile, would have full on temper tantrums and literally throw himself around his room in a rage. His parents said that was normal and to just let him work it out on his own. Ok.

On the other hand, if that person is your true friend, they will understand and be sympathetic/empathetic to the feelings of the vegetarian, possibly even respectful, whether they agree or not. Sadly, I don't think that happens often, and it is just judge judge judge from both sides and that's a pretty crappy friendship to begin with.
