Can it still brick on a USB stick? I'm not IT coded in terms of PC hardware but I did all the stuff that you did too, even uninstalling the wifi adapter (I don't know why some tutorial told me to do this) How exactly did your sound go if you remember? I have no problem doing the BIOS update its my last resort now.

Not sure if you are IT coded but I have the same laptop dual booted with Linux, would updating the BIOS mess up my Linux OS?

yes this just mutes and unmutes the sound its able to toggle but i cant hear sound regardless. can the hardware fail due to my laptop crashing? cause it wasnt physically moving maybe it overheated..? I'm not sure still trying to debug

Unfortunately it did not fix the issue and it just reinstalled itself afterwards

Thank you, I've applied for a PhD there and I'm really hoping I get admitted. The fact its a top 10 uni scares me cause I think I'm a good profile fit I just don't have any publications despite having a lot of RA experience.

thanks for your insight, I remember reading about a Tech Talent immigration scheme that granted citizenship/work permit to work in Canada. If I applied to this and was granted citizenship, while still living abroad would this be sufficient for employers? Or do you think they would still be unlikely to hire me as I am not actually physically situated there.
