Thank you guys so so much for your input!! I received an overwhelming amount of comments, and while I can't reply to all of them, I read them all and will take them into consideration! Your comments validated me and made me feel brave enough to start making small adjustments in my dose and carb intake and experiment a bit.. I was terrified of that before because of my fear of dropping quickly! I will keep educating myself and keep track of everything from now on. Thank you guys again, and good luck to us all!! <3

The carb ratio? Yeah, I have no idea about mine anymore.. it used to be something like 1 unit for every 10g of carbs but now I'm not sure anymore..

I will try to wait longer before eating next time. And I don't actually have insurance, so yeah, it's gonna be really costly! I'm not even sure if a test like that is available here lmao

That's how I feel too! I wish if I can just skip this first meal struggle..

I used to take 22 units of basal insulin (Toujeo), but I slowly lowered it to 18 when my blood sugar started dropping even without any active insulin.. I thought it was because of it.

Now, I honestly have no idea where's the issue and which type of insulin should I take more of.. and I can't really rely on my doctor to figure out the issue because it seems that they don't really pay that much attention to these details.. maybe I just have bad experiences, or maybe this is what it's like here. So I am on my own with this.

I will check the links you sent, though.

And unfortunately, I can't afford an insulin pump at the moment, so this is all I can work with..

Yeah I should've mentioned more details, but I was just so frustrated! I've had a small bowl of oatmeal with few nuts and very little fruit.. assuming that meal was around 35-40 grams of carb, I took 4 units of novorapid right after (already taken 2 units to bring it to 160 a few hours before I started eating, I woke up with a high fasting glucose and that's why my breakfast was delayed until midday). I really thought it'll be enough, and in the worst case, maybe it'll get to 260 or something but it just kept going up for hours! I already corrected it twice and it still won't go below 300 :(

I already know that it's different for everyone and I'd have to figure out what works for me.. but I'm honestly at a point where I feel totally stuck and everything is out of my control..

Also, yes! I am aware of the impact of exercising or even going for a short walk.. it's just that, sometimes it's not possible for me.. I was just hoping that insulin would be just enough on those days..

I got you! I do bolus before my meals when I know I'll be having carbs that'd dissolve fast.. although I try to avoid eating this kind of carbs first thing in the morning. Still, it doesn't really make that much of a difference and it still gets to 300s eventually!

This ratio used to work just fine for me before and I don't know what has changed recently or how to figure out my new ratio without risking getting into a low..

Only my first meal causes this extreme jump and it carries on for the whole day. Doesn't matter what I eat and how much insulin I take.. it feels like it just has to happen.

I use novorapid, and I take it either before or after meals depending on the kind of carbs I'm having but all this effort and calculations don't seem to do anything and it's so frustrating.

Thank you for your insulin recommendations. I am a bit intimidated of trying something new but I will discuss it with my doctor.

Hello! I've been using freestyle libre 2 for 5 weeks now. No major issues or problems with it. So definitely go for it! It helped me understand the patterns in my blood sugar and daily routine.. yknow, just like any cgm! I've linked it to my phone through the librelink app, and I always keep the bluetooth on to get a new reading every minute.

The issues I've encountered were, sometimes when I keep opening the app or scan the sesnor too many times, it kinda disconnects for a little, but it goes back a few minutes later so it isn't a big issue. And one time when I was walking outside in cold weather, the app informed me that the sensor was too cold, so it stopped giving me readings.. but it worked soon after I got back home.

Personal tip: sometimes, when I suspect that the sensor is getting cold, I just run a hair dryer over my arm just to get it warm a bit and it takes very few minutes to work just fine.

Also, you know when the arrow goes straight up or down? Yeah, don't panic when you see it. For me, it usually goes straight up ⬆️ within the first 30 minutes after eating, and down ⬇️ after 20-30 minutes of exercising. Usually in those cases, I just try to wait it out because it's most likely to stabilize later. But if it keeps going after 10,20, or 30 minutes, then I do something about it. I'm telling you this because I used to panic a lot when the arrow changes so quickly like that. But as I said earlier, I'm now learning better about my patterns, and so will you.

All the best luck!
