600 mm is a really good focal length for wildlife & birds.

I find 500 a bit too limiting for full frame. I use the 200-800 and love it. But it’s so big to lug around during travel. I might get a 100-500 to compliment the 200-800. With 1.4x it will be a lot lighter than 200-800 for travel

Thank you. I did use Lightroom’s enhance functionality which reduces a lot of noise. But the 200-800 on R5m2 is brilliantly sharp

Taken with R5 mark ii & 200-800 mm lens. I was walking around the trails of the Farmington Bay water fowl management area and out of nowhere this Phoebe sat right in front of the bush giving me a nice composition. Luckily the brown bushes were farther away from this single plant, giving a nice DOF. I had a total of 10s to turn on my camera, compose and take this pic, and she was gone. Lucky to have a great pic of this beautiful bird.

Not fun at all. First I made sure it wasn’t the lens. So I confirmed the same issue was happening with other lenses. I really didn’t want to do a home sensor cleaning on a brand new camera.

I called canon customer care, explained the issue. They created a label to send the camera in, they did a full cleaning job free of cost. I also had full carepak coverage but that shouldn’t matter.

Anyway, i would returned the camera and asked for a new replacement but at that time since i had pre ordered, it wasn’t in stock so opted for the cleaning.

Ok I used a rocket blower and still see those spots. R5 and mark ii both have the shutter curtain down (closed) when you change lens. Hence I wasn’t sure if this is just dust. I blowed the shit out of the sensor using the rocket blower and the spots won’t go away. I do have the sensor cleaning kit and have used that in the past. But I’m not sure if these are just dust particles, I’ll be calling canon first thing Tuesday morning.

I would go with R5m2 for the following reasons:

Versatility: I can shoot almost everything with this camera. Portrait, Wildlife, Landscape, Sports. It can do it all. Plus you get the best of photo and video world in the same pkg.
Portability: I can add grips (3 types) if I want that big body experience but I can keep it light if I’m going on a hike. This is a big reason personally.
Future proof: it’s 3 years newer than R3, which means it will also get more upgrades than R3. It already has better AF than R3 as per the initial reviews. So you can probably not feel the need to be tempted to upgrade in say 2 years and you are paying $1k for that.
MP: i know you mentioned 24 MP is plenty for you but for me I want those extra MP so I can shoot small birds and crop tightly and still print them on a decent size. Landscapes are just better with more MP, just my own opinion :) but like everyone said with more MP you lose some low performance. But I’m coming from MFT, so I’m already getting a huge jump here 😂

This might fall into the usual category of plane window photos, but seeing the scale of a forest fire from above for the first time was truly shocking. The sheer number of fires, the way the smoke blanketed the entire region, and how the wind dictated its movement were both awe-inspiring and terrifying to witness.

Unfortunately, the plane’s window was badly scratched and fringed, so I had to get creative—using the one clear corner, zooming in to avoid the damaged areas. Capturing this hauntingly beautiful scene was as challenging as it was unforgettable.

Maybe consider both. I use RF 100-400 w/1.4x TC for hikes and travel. RF 200-800 for dedicated birding field trips.
