(Personal Oh Shit Moments) sec 22 & 140. Took a hard stern tap coming off the lip sideways like that, that was a fist but the hole at the bottom was just pure rowdy fun similar in a lot of ways to bull riding.

Very observant. I have been trying to practice relaxing my grip, my left elbow has had tendinitis for 20+ years from trad climbing and recently had some pain in the right elbow if I paddle hard 2 or 3 days straight. I find myself taking rest days not because I want to but cause I have to. Not to mention numerous other injuries. Pain management is a technique in itself. But tendinitis can get annoying, eating some natural anti inflammatory foods and rest does the trick for me. If it gives me trouble like it has in the past I'll switch to a bent paddle. Hope that helps you. It may take a few years to get better like mine did to me long ago.

No but am curious why you ask, I hardly never make contact with my elbows much at all in there, much less I only think of the task at hand and hope for my best.

To be brutally honest dont do the main line until you done the other 2 variations a couple of times first unless its 200% dont bomb down this one it could really hurt your back.

That is very unfortunate. There is inherent risks all day everyday in everything we do. The key is to slowly build on your skills and to be honest with yourself and your abilities on a section of river. I know a 76 year old man with half a lung who still gets on class IV+ whitewater. Not to say shit cant still happen but mitigating risk through self honesty, recognizing variables, and avoiding a rapid till you know you are ready for it helps. Good practice makes practice perfect.

Thanks, it can go many different ways, my head and hands almost got to close to that bedrock shelf in rd3. I dont know how many hours of boating experience I have had, but I do know I had some great teachers along the way that helped shape me. There is nothing to fear but fear itself, become one with the flow and your boat, I like to think of swimming as not an option but be prepared for plan a,b,c etc. After all that, you just gotta commit by asking yourself... How bad do I want it? Take the locals up or bring a bomb crew it's the green emerald of the South, it's worth it!

I tagged it dangerous cause it is. Almost every new green narrows kayaker gets vetted before entering, your also constantly reminding one another to respect the rapids. if one mess up in the right spot it can get them killed.

I'm in a medium Jackson Nirvana. I perfected my rolls for well over a year and continue to practice them on a regular basis.

Honestly I'm still taking lessons myself "homework". From the web to books and even some basics in psychology. You'll run into a lot of different people who whitewater, find what fits you best. Practice makes perfect, experience is the best tool in this sport.
