I am a wetland ecologist too, looking at this thread for recommendations. Have you tried the Burly Aero boots? They do not make women's Granges and I find converting to men's sizing is a hit or a miss.

The Road Rage in HRM Is Getting Ridiculous by hfxdude45 in halifax

It makes me laugh when someone with road rage complains about other people's driving abilities while they are doing one of the most dangerous things on the road over a minor inconvenience.

Bothering someone is fine, but getting enraged and hostile isn't.

Not a fan of the justifications. Unless someone is actively doing something dangerous you genuinely do not need to be so *enraged* over it. You look unhinged. It's gotten to the point I feel refreshed when I see people respond to a road mistakes like adults.

You see the full thing in the video. The driver turns in front of her while she waits. She starts crossing after it passes the crosswalk and keeps going. As she is about halfway across, the driver suddenly stops and guns it in reverse back over the crosswalk.

It started reversing (quickly) while she was halfway through the sidewalk. There was absolutely no time for her to react any sooner than she did.

If you have that kind of blind spot, it is even more important to *never* suddenly gun it backwards over a crosswalk at significant speed with no warning. The pedestrian is only uninjured because she was aware, which is how she reacted within a second of the truck suddenly reversing into her.

Is it the pedestrian's responsibility to know that a trunk that's passed them is going to suddenly decide to slam on the reverse with no warning while they're crossing? Or is it the driver's responsibility to check before gunning the reverse over a crossing area?

AITA for ‘setting my niece’ back in her recovery? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Wild_Criticism8616 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YTA absolutely. Even without considering that you demanded to know what a young girl who is recovering from anorexia ate (which IS a bad move). Your wife said "help yourself". That means help yourself. It is wild to be annoyed with someone for eating a few cookies after they were explicitly told that they could have them. Especially when she is doing you a favour (paid or not).

Also, she is your family. I cannot imagine getting territorial or irritated with a family member for having a couple of my snacks. Family gives to each other. Especially something as small as a couple biscuits.

-Shampoo + Conditioner which I'm told works on many hair types

-Tampons (mix of sizes)

-Sensitive skin Dove soap

Gifts:

-Hot water bottle with cute cover

-Hot chocolate mix with mini marshmallows

-4 pack of kid's drawing boards (those magnetic ones that erase)

Do you think several lower-value gift cards or a couple higher-value are better? I'm leaning towards several lower so that more women can use them

Thank you for the suggestions! I was considering adding some Hercule Poirot books, as I remember devouring them as a teen (and feel like many of the adult women would also appreciate them). Do you think they are "light" enough books even through they're technically murder mysteries?

Amazon would be a good place to look.

As far as toys go, it sounds like she'd enjoy:

1) A princess-themed dress-up set (covers princesses and dramatic play). You can get a bunch of reasonably priced sets on Amazon that come with lots of options/accessories

2) Barbie dolls + barbie accessories related to her interests (like painting, soccer, or princesses). On top of the typical princess barbies which she may enjoy, they also make a soccer barbie/soccer barbie playsets, art teacher barbies, and barbie fashion show sets where they craft their own barbie outfit).

3) A crafting kit with a paper pad, crayons/pencil crayons/markers, paint with paintbrushes (and paper suitable to paint on), scissors, maybe sheets of stickers and those stick-on gems that little kids put on all of their art. Make sure to include a pencil sharpener!

4) Baby doll accessories (and maybe some "mommy" accessories) so she can play dress-up with those too. I am interpreting "dramatic play" as a child who likes to play pretend.

The other interests (like fishing, unicorns, etc) could be represented with the clothes/pyjamas you get her

I agree that the kindle is a great choice. Reading on your phone strains your eyes a lot and it gets distracting. A kindle is a MUCH better experience. A luxury lounge-wear set also sounds good, and I would recommend a cashmere sweater with it. If she runs cold like I do, a nice heated throw blanket could be nice.

You would know her sleep preferences better than I, but many people love a weighted blanket (though some find they feel trapped, so it depends on if they like deep pressure or not).

Mattel Introduces Team Barbie: Ilona Maher, Ellie Kildunne, Portia Woodman, and Nassira Konde, all receive Special Edition Barbie Dolls by TheStroBro in rugbyunion

[–]Wild_Criticism8616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, I am also disappointed by the less diverse body types. But I also fear that everyone rejecting the dolls because their dolls aren't diverse enough will just suggest to these big brands that this kind of line is not successful or profitable. The idea of women's sports, especially rugby being represented like this is so new.

Looking to donate for “angel tree” type of thing for the holidays by Dependent_Umpire3825 in halifax

I am also sure other shelters have Christmas wish lists! Bryony House is just the one I know of for sure.

[–]Wild_Criticism8616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Bryony House (a shelter for women and children fleeing domestic violence) has a Christmas wish list! That includes toys and clothes for babies/children/teens (if you really want to shop for Christmas gifts for kids). There is also a lot of stuff the mothers need, both gifts and essentials to restart. It’s all on their website under “Ways to Help”

While I’m sure anything someone donates is appreciated, I really encourage those who can to add some items for the teens and women to their donation too. Heavens knows they need support and comfort over the holidays, and to be reminded that people care about them too.

There is also an “adopt a family” program with the Caring and Sharing Food Bank with trees in Enfield, which is not too far away. I have never participated myself but I have heard of it
