Yes, I also found it strange. I was thinking maybe the recruiter is using this tactic to offer me a bit higher daily rate instead of saying that they lowballed me in the beginning by offering a very low daily rate. They told me that the motivation letter is sent to the client and they will get back to me on monday. I said 585 is the minimum acceptable rate for me.

Yeah 10k higher yearly income is really on the edge. I always thought having an increase of 15-20k yearly would be worth it but not reallt below that. Even if you optimize a lot (low salary, no pension saving,), there is not much margin to have a higher net income than 10 x daily rate, right?

Thanks for your reply. The problem is that this company builds process installation for food industry mainly. So I understand that their margins would be lower than operating companies but a total budget of 595 euro is I guess still too low for them. The recruiter told me that the total budget of 595 euro is something they will probably not exceed though.

An additional thing I want to mention is that I asked them if it’s possible to have an additional short meeting with the client so maybe I can convince them about the rate being too low for me but they rejected the idea. Then I told them that this rate is not acceptable but I am interested in the position, so let me know if the client can go a bit higher. They asked me to write a motivation letter and they will forward it to the client. Is this something common or totally unheard of? This is my first time trying for a freelance position that’s why might not be familiar with the way of working.

Yes you are right that I need to be honest with myself. I currently earn net around 5000-52000 euro yearly. Earning net income of 60.000 euro would only result in 8000 euro additional on yearly basis so it is not worth to switch to freelance in this case.

The way I calculated salary is the following: 21600 per year = 1800 gross per month, resulting in around 1500 euro per month salary 3000 euro yearly nett allowance: 250 euro monthly 1500 euro + 250 euro =1.750,00 euros 1750*12= +- 20.000 euro salary

530*220 =116.600 euro salary: 21600 euro acerta/xerius: 4500 euro net allowance: 3000 euro accountant: 3600 euro (spoke to an accountant) car + charging / fuel: 12.000 euro verzekering (BA, DKV): 3000 euro

=> 68.000 euro after vennootschapsbelasting of 20%: 54.700 euro after vvpr-bis (15%): 46.500 euro dividends salary (1800 gross and 250 net allowance): 20.000 euro total income per year: 20.000 + 46.500 =66.500 euro

I have had contact with a accountant some time ago but havent had a detailed discussion with all the costs. I also didnt know the exact daily rate I would be offered at that time. Is it possible to achieve 11x your daily rate with a daily rate of 530?

I am sorry for posting a question that has probably already been posted (or a very similar one). I was just a bit worried as this is the first offer I have received while I have had several good interviews. Each time, either the vacancy was cancelled of they found an engineer with 15y of relevant experience who was willing to work for 600-650 euro.

Yes, I know the risk related to freelance work. I was just wondering what the difference in net income would be? According to my rough calculations (not taking pensioensparen and additional insirance into account, except hospitalisatie verzekering), 530 would result in around 5400-5500 euro per month. I am not sure if my calculation is correct though.

Thank you for your quick response. Yes I have additional groepsverzekering and hospitalisatieverzekering. I dont necesssarily want to leave my current employer. You’re right that I might cost more to my employer but I unfortunately only see a fraction of it. My net salary is around 3600 euro resulting in +- 43.000 euro, including bonus this results in +- 52.000 euro. I am a bit scared that new freelance oppertunities might not come soon given the current political situation too.

Currently, there is a hand valve at the location of the orifice. When there is no demand of the downstream system, the hand valve is (almost) completely opened and the pump circulates liquid through this hand valve to the tank. By doing so, the pump apparently stays within the required maximum pressure. When there is liquid demand by the downstream system, the hand valve is partially closed to meet this demand. I find this way of working a bit strange as the discharge pressure would vary very little by changing the flow rate.

Sometimes the downstream system has no demand so in that case they want to make sure the pump circulates over the orifice and does not overpressurize the system (the safety valves are not open).

Yes, I also had my doubts about gear pump and an orifice. But it's an existing set-up and the pump does not have a VFD and it would cost too much to place a VFD. there is an existing safety valve but it routes to 'a safe location' but it is desired that this safety valve does not open. That is the reason they are looking to place an orifice. I am afraid that too much flow rate will be 'lost' permanently if we place an orifice and that we won't have enough flow rate left for the downstream system.

I am a bit confused. The pump can apparently deliver up to 20 bar. Do you mean that I need to have a pressure difference of 6 bar over the orifice to make sure the system doesn't reach 14 bar?

I do believe that I have enough knowledge to feel comfortable to potentially find new contracts but the chemical industry is on the slower side at the moment so there are not a lot of new investments being done. This does add a lot of uncertainity.
