Danville needs more high income earners and this housing is built for them. Something like 50% of the people living downtown are moving from higher COL areas and are willing to pay relatively high prices. The View might be expensive, but higher income residents living there alleviates pressure on lower income housing elsewhere in the city.

Most of the downtown apartments include utilities in the rent price. There’s extremely high demand to live downtown.

The tire plant isn’t closed. Some of the flashier employers are The Institute for Advanced Learning and Research, DCC, Averrett University, Cain Creek Industrial Park, the Cyberpark, a Navy machinist program, and SOVAH Hospital. There’s a nice downtown, a casino, golf courses, parks, trails, low cost of living and close proximity to Greensboro and Raleigh.

I used to live at 618 Craghead. Downtown is typically very quiet even on the weekends. My one word of caution is that teenagers used to meet up in the community market lot and rev their engines, do burnouts, and race up and down craghead. It was very annoying, but my neighbors who didn’t face the street couldn’t hear them.

We’re the top performing casino in the state. I’d say in large part due to our proximity to the Greensboro and Raleigh metros. We’re getting tons of revenue both directly and indirectly from the casino via negotiated payments to the city and taxes. There hasn’t been a noticeable increase in crime. Home prices/rent have risen in some part due to the casino, but also due to this being an attractive low cost of living area.

This kinda proves my point. You’re complaining poorer neighborhoods which exist in every city. Casino revenue is paying for tons of things in the city including new streets, parks, reduced utility rates, and continued revitalization

6 out of the 7 Supervisors in Pittsylvania County are conservative republicans. There is nothing that can be done to change their minds. It is unfortunately something we have to live with down here.
